davidgtr
Not sure about simply relying on that official list. Whilst it shows an international checkpoint in Chalerm Phrakiat District (Huay Kon) , it is not feasible to cross over into Laos as the Lao side is not designated as international - you cannot enter. So your nearest realistic international checkpoint will be Chiang Khong, 260 kms away. The shortest way to CK from Nan is Nan - Tha Wang Pha – Chiang Kham – Thoen – Chiang Khong. Routes # 1080 – 1148 – 1021 – 1020. (If you like motorcycle riding route 1148 is the top road in North Thailand & well worth checking out for a bit of a blast.) Hope this is a help. Good luck in Nan, it’s a bit out of the way, but wonderful countryside & people.
