ผ่าเครื่อง

Featured Replies

A mechanic in a motorcycle shop asked me

ผ่าเครื่องไหม?

as in "Have you ผ่าเครื่อง -ed?"

Does this mean "Have you rebored the cylinder?" or it does it mean something less specific.

He went on to say "เอ๊ะ (exclamation denoting surprise) รถที่ผ่าน 90,000 กิโล ทำไมเครื่องยังนิ่ง" I'm not 100% sure about the last word being นิ่ง. The meaning appears to be "Eh! How come a bike which has done 90,000 kms still has a smooth-running(?) engine?"

In normal condition I guess, I wonder if that means it doesn't need taking apart and doing what ever it is they do. Recondition I suppose it means. I think นิ่ง is normal. You could say that the reason it is ยังนิ่งอยู่เพราะยังไม่ได้ผ่าเครื่อง definitely a suspicion I have after my experience with the Audi dealership, I am not sure about bikes though.

In this scooter forum someone asked what do they do when they ผ่าเครื่อง and the answer involved changing the piston, conrod, bearings etc. So seems like a rebuild maybe?

One dictionary I looked in translates rebore as คว้านกระบอกสูบ or คว้านลูกสูบ.

The "ning" bit basically means smooth. As in the engine is still running smoothly. he was suprised and is complementing the fact that the bike has done 90k, hasn't had its rings and bearing replaced and yet is still running smoothly. Pa kreuang does not mean rebore. It simply means to take out the engine and open it up to replace what needs replacing.

ผ่าเครื่อง=overhaul

Should make the engine running like new if done properly.

Got a new one for you very much along the lines of ผ่าเครื่อง

หัวฉีด "Torn head" ??

From the context of the conversation, this is something you do to a bike, probably an older bike, to improve its performance and prolong the engine's life.

The guy I was talking to was very enthusiastic about หัวฉีด -ing bikes. He looked on the activity as a very positive thing for bikes. Apparently you can do it to both automatics such as a Click and clutch bikes such as a CBR 150.

Does this perhaps mean 'rebore'?

หัวฉีด is an injector/nozzle/gicleur etc. Presumably he was referring to modifying or servicing this part in some way.

หัวฉีด can be a type of the engine. Fuel injection with ECU control as opposed to carburetor engine.

Supposed to be greenner and more powerfull. Not sure if you can convert carb engine to fuel injection.

หัวฉีด = injection head, spray head.

Ah yes, I was confusing ฉีด with ฉีก
