Featured Replies

Dear Fellow Aussies, tomorrow is Australia Day, at the Party Shop we have a range of Australia branded items, flags, banners, beach balls etc etc to dress up your bar/restaurant if you are planning a party.

Having the day at home.

With my VB, Flags, and box set of dvds of Skippy

Not trying to be disparaging to our Australian cousins, just thought it may be of interest to some Australians.

The dark details of their family histories are to be revealed to thousands of Australians this week following the release of details of the convicts Britain sent to the new colony more than 200 years ago.

The British government has released the details to coincide with Australia Day on Tuesday, allowing individuals to search through an online data base to check if they are descended from criminals.

Not surprising that they took 222 years to release the actual details. It must be an embarrassment to the British government to have to face up to what they did to so many of their then countrymen, many for minor offences, some of them later found innocent, but even the innocent ones never got the return trip.

Lucky for Western Australians that the Swan River Colony wasn't a convict settlement to begin with, and was somewhat established before transportation began in the 1840s up until 1869 if I recall. Just a slight blemish on the the history of the state.

Not really news because all the details have been around since it happened, and anyone with an ancestry of pioneers can find the truth without too much effort. Glad to see the British government owning up to their crimes at last, though I wouldn't expect much in the way of authentic reality - not from either government.

Happy 222nd Birthday Australia.
