msg362
I have two expensive Nikon lenses worth about £1000 in total. They are mine, used but without UK receipts. I want to post/ courier them back to my son in the UK, I am registered at that address How do I avoid having to pay duty/ VAT on them when they arrive? I will be in France in April, can I send them from there, i.e. inside Europe, without a problem? any help appreciated
Beardog
Good luck. You will most likely pay duties for an appraised lens going into UK & back to Thailand taxed in both directions. I paid around $127. US for a pair of warren-teed sunglasses With the invoice showing charges $0.00 & then 700 more baht in Thailand. I waited to go back to the U.S. & just had them sent one way. The cost of the lens I wouldn't try to be slick & not declare value. It may be worth going on the UK site & see what lens tariff's are. In the U.S. they are quite high. I think there is another thread going on now about tariff's.You may be better off to take it back when you go back to the U.K. & only ship it once. P.S. My glasses with shipping charges exceeded the cost of brand new glasses.
