Possibly The Only Water Cooled Xbox In Bangkok ?

Featured Replies

My nephew cooked it up for me over the holidays in Oz. Should solve the overheating issues !! Hope it don't spring a leak

( Being leak tested in the kitchen )

That is very clever what he has done.

I have just been through this exercise.

Buying the right washers and screws to mount the heat sinks firmly is one step that is needed, the other is to get the airflow sorted.

What I did is this http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/ring_...x-clamp_fix.htm and this http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/360-12V-fan-Mod.htm it's a little noisier now with one fan running at full speed all the time but works well.

The clamp mod can be done with screws, washers etc from a hardware store, no need for the special opening tool.

Very quiet now. Airflow- no need to worry as the 2 big processors are the heat generators and are water cooled, the rest is peanuts.

Removed the fans, have one very very small one just to circulate air over the mother board - does not heat up at all.

I would put the original fans back in as they will run at minimum speed due to lower temps, there are those components on the other side of the board that have the MS chewing gum cooling that may rely on airflow to keep them cool.

Very clever but why not just use something like a CO2 cartridge with an occasional burst as required? Would work just as well but without the added distress of worrying about leaks and mixing water with electrical processors, just let it vent to atmosphere...

Why not go the whole hog and make it oil cooled :)http://www.geekologie.com/2008/01/mineral_...r_cooling_s.php

Good point - after all, all high power transformers have oil to convect the heat from the coils to the body / fins. Interesting ( but happy with what i got )

The water is distilled, so not quite as hazardous it may first seem.:)

Not an Xbox, but along the lines. One of my builds from a way back. CPU cooled to subzero temps (approx -35c loaded) with a vapochill and volt modded GPU watercooled.

LoL - can it shoot down incoming missiles too ? cool concept thought, in all senses of the word.

Skippy, looks good (Kinda), is there plans to tidy it up ??

To anyone living out here I recommend water cooling (for their computers) My quad core was always hot as hel_l no matter what i did, I installed a small water kit on the CPU and now shes happy @ 60DegC under load, when air cooled it idled at 55DegC (Tried many different coolers).

Clean up? Nah, my nephew spent many hours on it........ actually that pic is "opened' state . now its all sealed up, the xbox with the 2 pipes coming out of its bum, and and decent sealed heat exchanger now.

not looking for perfection, just some thing which looks "ok" and works. I dont trust xbox's in Bangkok ( over heat, and i dont use aircon at home which adds to the troubles. )

cool cool, got any pics with the lids on then.

Water is the way to go, how hot does your GPU run? I have a HD 4870x2 that idles at over 65 C and I am about to put a water block on it also. I have just ordered a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 which has a water block on the MB from the factory.

By popular demand.

Actually looking at it, he has done a good job - neat and tidy.

I don't know about the gigabyte. This is a build I did with a 4870x2 and EK Block. Ordered the parts from EK and had them delivered here.

The block work's a treat, I'm using one myself. Even with the card volt modded, the vcore bumped up, and overclocked to the max temps don't exceed 40c fully loaded. On average it just sits around the 30-35c mark.

Not much different to this commercial version http://psxboy.com/778_XBOX360-Water-Cooling-System.html
