Thai Passport For My Daughter

Can someone tell me where I need to go to get a Thai passport for my 8 month old daughter and what I need to bring as far as ID etc?

Wow! I'm guessing that Banga or Udon Thani (since my wife is in loei) might be the most easy for us. I'm actually working abroad right now and our plan is for me to meet up with my wife and daughter in Bangkok, get my daughters Thai passport and all head off to the states together. A flight down to Udon Thani might be easier then traveling around Bangkok together.

Can you give me an Idea of how quick the process is? My wife called and was told two or three days but I would prefer to hear from some one who has done it.

my wife got her new passport within 2 hours in BKK, there was a special counter for this service(extra fee)

(not sure, if for babies the same )

Assuming she is your biological daughter it would be far more practical for you to get her an American passport. Your daughter will not be able to enter the U.S. with a Thai passport alone.

You need to take her to the embassy and apply for a U.S. certificate of birth abroad. Then you can apply for the passport at the embassy once the certificate is issued.

Of course you may run into a problem with your wife unless she already has some kind of U.S. entry visa or green card, etc. However, if other posters experience are an indication your wife probably has a great chance at obtaining a 10 year visitor visa simply because she is your wife and the mother of a U.S. citizen.

Sorry. I just realized it's completely likely that you already have the U.S. passport and applicable visas, etc. And that you are probably wanting the Thai passport to use for re-entry into Thailand upon your return from the U.S.

No problem. My wife does have her visa and my daughter has her US Passport. I just don't want my 8 month old doing Border runs when she returns so she needs the Thai passport....

2 hours for a passport? That sounds great! I'm going to have my wife call the udon office today!

As far as I know.

All passports are issued in BKK.

The local office collect the information and email to BKK. then Passport posted back to local office.

I did one for my step daughter in Korat and we collected 5 days later in BKK.

You are correct. All passports are issued in Bangkok. When my wife had to renew her Thai passport here in the U.S. The Consulate had to send the application to Bangkok to be processed. The passport was printed in Bangkok and then sent back to the consulate.

you can apply at any office and as said they are all issued in Bangkok but you pay 35 baht extra and they will send it to you ems anywhere in Thailand .

Good to have 2 as my daughter has both us and thai, only uses her thai passpoort to enter and leave thailand

She won't need to do border runs regardless of which passport she enters Thailand on.

Providing the parents of a minor (I think under 14, but I could be wrong on the age, are legal the child is fine for overstay)

My personal example, and we were told to do this by the wife's uncle who is a high ranking immigration officer.

I am a Canadian citizen, my wife is Thai but also has Canadian citizenship. My son was born in Canada and we got him a Canadian passport right away. We moved to Thailand when he was 3 months old and he entered on a Canadian passport getting the 30 day tourist stamp. He didn't leave the country for 1.5 years when we then travelled to Hong Kong it was no issue what so ever. They just added an extra stamp to his passport. We were once again told that children are fine, he did of course have a Thai Birth Certificate and Passport by that time.

Hope that helps, basically it is a non-issue for your child.

No idea how long it takes as I did this 23 years ago... However we went to the local place for passports with copies and originals

of all required Thai papers and farang papers. However it may save you problems and likely TIME if you can involve the USA embassy to issue all the papers needed. I still remember the time a Thai lady was annoyed as she was send on a foreign passport chase so after I talked to her she understoof that there is no way Thai immigration can take their Thai nationality away that she considered just getting a Thai passport(g). Normally thats what I have seen as best solution , Thais should come to Thailand and leave it on a Thai passport and enter the foreign country on their foreign passport... if they have one.
