Modern Style Kitchens

We have been looking around this past month...

Index - came to measure but haven't heard back from them in two weeks now! Wasn't too confident about them from the salesmen anyway.

Homikitch - had a design and price less than a week after measuring. When pushed they gave substantial discounts - 20% plus free installation of oven/sink/hood/gas top etc. The quality in their showroom is not bad but nothing special.

Starmark @homepro - had a design and price after 3 days. The salesmen was professional and the quality seems fairly good. They offered 35% discount off the bat, which was good as their standard price was very high. We asked for a further discount and they gave another 8%, bringing it up to 43% off.

Home Sukkapan - took around 10 days for a design after measuring but they have been fairly helpful and accommodating. We are still waiting on the exact price but have been given a rough ballpark figure, which is much cheaper than Homikitch or Starmark. The quality seems comparable to both Homikitch and Starmark.

We did ask SB @homepro but they had no showroom plus we have had problems with their furniture design team so didn't bother to look into it more... There is apparently a kitchen place in Modern Form but we are 'kitchened' out and cant be bothered getting more quotes or designs.

We have also had some Thai carpenters come out but they mainly specialise in wood designs and we want modern looking 'factory pressed' laminated cabinets. There was one guy that had a factory and could do that but his price was higher than those listed above.

At the moment we are probably leaning towards Home Sukkapan as they should be substantially cheaper for similar quality. The other thing to note is bench tops. Index doesn't even supply granite, Homikitch and Starmark charge ridiculous prices for their granite but Home Sukkapan have reasonably priced options. If you go with one of the other companies look into getting your granite from one of the numerous places around town :)

Goodluck :D

We are after something pretty much the same as in that pic...

If you go into Home Sukkapan, they have an all white display kitchen at the front of the kitchen section - its their 'top of the line' finish... There is not a huge selection of colours available.

I was hard pressed to see much difference in quality between the Home Sukkapan, Homikitch and Starmark finishes. If they were all the same price I might choose Starmark by a hair but since the difference in quality is minimal and Sukkapan should be 25% cheaper than the other two I can't justify paying extra for what is essentially the same. Sukkapan's kitchens are manufactured in Bangkok by a big cabinet making company (name escapes me at the moment but its up there with Starmark in size).

Starmark, Homikitch and Index as well as others Im sure, do a high-gloss finish, which is mdf board with a factory sprayed finish that is really nice. Lots of different colours to choose from. The only thing I would be worried about is scratching or chipping the finish, thats why we have decided on the laminate. Be careful with some of the cheaper laminate finishes as they are not properly finished on the corners and after time they will peel back.

If you want the number for the guy @homikitch let me know, he will come and measure up and make a computer design for free.

Hi - yes number please... what are you paying may I ask? 200+? Ill go back to Sukkapan and re-check - I'm after the high-quality laminate not the spray on - do they supply without that terrible plastic counter top? I'd like to buy my own granite but when I was there they said it came as a 'package' which was why I was looking for someone who could do it minus counter tops etc.

Hi, can you put up the quote ,(how much) and the design they provided, the included hardware they will use. The finish : plastic laminate (formica) lacquer or polyurathane? This way everybody can know the ball park deal here . My wife is requesting the exact same look ,clean ,modern, white high gloss which is back in fashion for sure . If o.k. on this forum post best place and cost with drawings. This is a big investment and somewhat risky up here in CM. Any and all help would be great!

I agree - would help everyone - I am in the process so happy to share (once I know).

Im going off-white/creamy high gloss laminate look - with Blue Pearl Granite tops - I have teak oak look at present condo - which looks nice but too dark - changing look for next place - makes whole room look bigger - kitchen will be in open living area - honey coloured teak parquet flooring throughout.

The price of your kitchen will depend on your design and size so its hard to compare... The best way is to go and have a look at the different styles and designs, then have the salespeople come out and measure your kitchen space. They are all more than happy to give a free design and price :)

If you want a rough guide, from what I can see a 'standard' size custom made kitchen will run anywhere from 130k to 250k without counter tops or at some places maybe with a 'free' plastic counter top. What type of granite and appliances you choose can greatly increase the price. All the kitchen places we had quotes from seem to break down the pricing into different types of cupboards, drawers etc. Drawers are usually expensive, for example Starmark charges something like 18k for a standard set of drawers so if you want more than one it can quickly add up.

Granite tops in Homikitch and Starmark are way overpriced so if you choose to use them it would be advised to seek out your counter tops from one of the numerous granite places around town. Depending on your choice of granite I would estimate the cost to be between 20k to 30k, although you could spend more if you want something special.

As I said before from the places we have had quotes the quality seems to be about the same and at this point Home Sukkapan is the cheapest so I would probably recommend them.

Hope this helps :D

What neat kitchen, where in Thailand can we find such Kitchen dealer who make such beautiful kitchen like that.

An update for those interested...

Home Sukkapan has turned out to be a complete let down and my previous recommendation needs to be revised to an 'only if you can put up with their incompetence'.

We were meant to have an exact price last week but they were 'not ready', they did however come to measure the kitchen again - I think they have measured three times now :)... We were however assured by the person in charge of the design that the price would come in under 120k (cabinets only), so I was willing to wait for them to get their act together... Anyway after not hearing from them, we went to see them on Monday and basically told them if you cant have the price and revamped design ready by Wednesday that we would not be using them... They assured us it would be ready the next day. Next day comes, nothing... Wednesday they sent the design by email, which was missing the changes we discussed in detail the week previous and most importantly there was still no price! We went in to see them again that day and sorted the design problem and was told that the price would be ready by 5pm the same day... Well we haven't heard from them since (48 hours)!

After not hearing from them yesterday I decided that we would go with Starmark @Homepro as they seem the most competent and have been quick and professional. The price is a little higher (175k), although we haven't received the proper price from Sukkapan to compare exactly. Starmark doesn't do a laminate white finish so we have chosen a wood grain finish that I actually like a little more... They do the hi-gloss finish in white although I would be worried about the paint chipping over time with general use.

To give an idea of the price of granite, Starmark would have charged around 65k for our countertop using a plain black (6k/mt) but the designer has put us in contact with the granite supplier they actually use and if we approach them personally the price will be around 35k...

If you are after a white laminate kitchen I would recommend Homitkitch, whose price for us was 175k too, although I thought the quality of Starmark was ever so slightly better but not by much... There were no problems with Homiktich's design team and the price was easily worked out and adjusted on the spot when we changed things about...

Starmark has a 5 week turn around so all things going to plan we should have it installed by the end of next month. Ill update the thread again once its installed...

Do any Chiang Mai members have any updates please in regard to kitchens?

Appreciate any information or comments thanks.

4 things we like about homikitch:

  1. product knowledge;
  2. professional attitude;
  3. Teka appliances which have a service centre in Chiangmai - may come in handy
  4. willing to deal to a point

As for price, we found that all the local kitchen people were within 10% of eachother.

Quality - there is a big quality and price jump from standard laminate to spray on poly.

Anyone is welcome to PM me for specific pricing and details.

Cheers,

Lingnoi

Concur^

They sell good quality, and priced low depending upon grade; so good and so low in fact, that most of the street granite vendors throughout CMai buy there and add on suitable profit margins here in CMai. Same goes for most if not all the wooden door suppliers here in CMai who buy in MaeSot: all they do here is sandpaper and varnish, but pretend they are the initial source. Caveat emptor!

Hi there,

I just ordered my kitchen from Index (on Superhighway).

They now have granite tops samples (actually they use a supplier who will come in, invoice you and collect the money from you separately).

The designer at Index does an OK job, but better if you know what you want. He doesn't speak much English, but Index will call on a staff who can translate for you. Their modular system seems quite good and flexible.

Press him for EXACT prices, as his estimates can be way out. He also forgot to mention that I needed a wooden support bench-top under the granite until quite late in the quoting process. The extras add up, but still an OK price.

I went for the hi-gloss white finish Illusion, with a granite top at 1,800 B per sqm + service charges for cutting. Bench-top (with double edge) came to about 11,000 B installed,

Cabinets about 66,000 B for L-shaped 2.4m X 3.0m floor cabinets and 2.4m X 1.2m L-shaped wall cabinets. Prices vary depending on how many 3-drawer modules you want (they are more expensive than just cabinet with doors and shelves. The quote for Laminate bench-top was more expensive than the natural stone granite, so of course I went for the stone.

They advertise 5 days delivery from order (BKK only), in CM it's more like 10 days.

Currently they have 10% discount if bought with some electrical appliances (but I got the discount even without buying the appliances from them) which finishes TODAY 27 May 2010. Also helps if you get their Joycard (spend 5,000 B first, then you can get card, after that you get 3-5% discount on many things).

I am yet to get my kitchen delivered and installed, so I can't tell you about their workmanship. But I will closely supervise every step, so that they don't cock it up.

Index & HomePro have a good range of European appliances. Some you have to wait for 6-8 weeks delivery if it comes from Europe. All other stuff comes from BKK. They both have the same List Prices, so it's up to you to bargain and buy when things are on special. But getting a discount, even a small one, is like getting blood from a stone.

I got my appliances from HomePro, Teka Oven & Hob, Franke Hood & Sink.

I hope this helps :)
