Bomb Attack At University Near Government House Aimed At Seeking Publicity: PM

Oh come on... This is classic:

Problem (self created)

Reaction (blame it on someone)

Solution (have the infamous security laws on the day when the reds want to march with all those draconian devices like the sonic boom machine that can disperse people in a radius up to 2 KILOMETERS)

This regime would stop at nothing!

Look how the Nazis did it! They burnt down the Reichstag and blamed the commies...

the fish stinks from the head!

Same with those 6 bombs at Victory Monument last time, it's the show to have new legistlation passed and to have a boogie man... it's all them, yeah, there ya go

Sick of these fake games!

:D

I am sick of it also, but who has been behind these same attacks on the yellow shirts, Exact same mode of operation , grenades fired from an army launcher and the Red shirt violence of the past and its appointing a head General of a peoples army, sounds like commies to me and also has so-called Generals going around the country inciting violence. No government should tolerate those actions by members of its military, Treason, one would say.

I feel for the people of Thailand, that Thaksin has taken upon himself to destroy Thailand. It is my hope that the forces of peace prevail, and follow the advice of creating unity in our land!

Cheers; :)

IT DON'T MATTER WHO GETS HURT OR WHAT IT COSTS, IT APPEARS THAT MR. "T" CAN BUY WHAT HE WANTS (UNTIL HIS MONEY IS GONE) AND THIS IS CONVINCING THAT HE WILL STOP AT NOTHING. Who else would be behind this sort of thing. Even the nieve will have to see it sometime sooner or later. He is a convicted criminal and criminals stick together and do things like this........

I guess the Red leader really did not mean what they said. "there will be only peaceful demonstrations"

I guess they were kidding again :)

Was it the red shirts or are you just assuming? Correct me if I am wrong but is this not the tatics of the yellow shirts? Who are the good guys anyway? As my wife is pro red I will have to stick with her.

My wife and here extended family were pro red for the most ridiculous of reasons. Happily they have seen the light and now very very Anti big T and his childish antics.

Perhaps you mean naive ? I really don't know that a clenched fist ( nieve) will be able to see anything, whether it is sooner or later

Golly, everyone seems to know so much ... such keen insight!

I suppose I'm too naive to venture an opinion, so I'll just listen you all you wise men on this site.

:)

It's because none of them hail from a country that has ever agressively raised it's hand against another state or section of society. That's why they are in such a hurry to cast the first stone! It's either that or good old fashioned ex-pat arrogance.

Or it was just a honest mistake

A grenade/bomb at 11pm on a saturday night in a university sounds more like a deliberate attempt to create alarm while making sure no one is hurt........... So who fired it?

Then disarming a bomb? Good PR without damaging any property.........

At least reading The Nation headline explained the 3 pound figure in the attack. It was a 3 pound C-4 bomb that was taken care of with a water cannon by the Thai EOD members. Yes water cannons are used in disarming bombs. And the 40mm grenade fired from the M79 or M203 was not 3 pounds 1.36kg (I wounder how they know which type of weapon was used since they both fire the exact same ordinance) The most common type of round fired the HEDP (High Explosive Dual Purpose) weighs around 170 grams, this is no where near the 3 pounds in the original story. And the M79 has a 150 metre point target range and a 350 metre effective range for area target.

And the fact that the M79 was used by allied forces during the Vietnam War, it wouldn't be a big surprise that one found it's way into the hands of a criminal/terrorist.

u have no idea how many times i said that to myself. it's a miracle it hasn't happened yet. it's actually unbelievable considering what else is g possible in thailand.

If you are talking about Thaksin Shinawatra, I can assure you he is extremely popular in Si Sa Ket too.

(My wife comes from there.)

One post suggesting assassination has been deleted and a warning given to the poster. Subsequent posts quoting were also deleted.

If that (rightly) deleted post was about Thaksin Shinawatra, which was not completely clear due to the poor wording, I can assure you that Thaksin is still extremely popular in Si Sa Ket too.

Two points.

Point 1.

Who in the Police Force or the government has said that the bombs are linked to Taksin Shinawatra?

Point 2.

Who in the Police Force or the Courts has said that Thaksin Shinawatra illegally accumulated Bt 75.6 billion whilst he was in office?

Strikes me as odd the number of expats automatically concluding that Thaksin was the evil mastermind behind these very amateurish bomb attempts.

If you had a cunning plan to strike fear into the heart of the government would you really hire a guy who cant hit the correct building from 200 metres away with a grenade launcher? Or rent a bomber who puts a couple of kg of C4 in a juice box under a tree with wires hanging out of it. And then would you tell them to strike early morning on Chinese New Year holiday, also a Sunday - so for sure no-one will be around. And then would you expect not to get the blame for it.

This is the last thing that any red shirts want. The bombs were planned so they didn't cause any injury but did get headlines. Pretty obvious someone is stirring the pot and getting the desired response from papers like The Nation and govt new agencies such as MCOT.

I have figured it out. They are testing the bomb detection devices and here is the proof :)

The country has 535 units of GT200 and most of them are being used by the army in the violence-plagued South. The price of each unit is 900,000 baht but it rises to 1.2 million baht if the package includes 21 chip cards. However, there have been suspicions that the detector may not work properly.

"Media members and spectators will not be allowed to witness the testing, as they could pressure the officials," Khunying Kalaya said after arriving at Pathum Thani's Science Park where the equipment will be tested.

She said C4 explosives will be randomly hidden during the experiment and it will be conducted 20 times. The test result will be submitted to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at the cabinet meeting on Feb 26.

So no worries folks this is just a test. :D

I had no idea what a M79 Granade Launcher looks like so I googled and found a nice picture. It's a hand held device, like a fat rifle. Very mobile, could be launched from a back of a motorcycle... Or so it seems - I don't know if it can. Anyone knows this weapon and can tell us? Someone mentioned 500m range earlier.

The M-79 grenade launcher, as the picture shows, is a light weapon. The grenade itself looks a lot like a standard ammo round -- only much, much bigger. You could say it looks like a huge, fat bullet. There is not much recoil when the weapon is fired. The launcher is stubby, as you can see by the picture, and actually could be fired from the hip if necessary. This "bomb" had to be fired from somewhere, unless it was rigged somehow to go off with a tripwire. That does not seem likely, so I imagine someone with a launcher popped a round off from a good vantage point. Actually, it could have been fired from a passing vehicle -- a classic "drive-by." Even better, from the back of a tuk-tuk. The sound is like a hollow pop -- a champagne cork popping is a good analogy. Who would even hear or notice in the swirl of Bangkok traffic?

Of course, unless the grenade was a dud, it would have gone off on impact. So I suspect it wasn't fired at all; rather, it was "planted" at the entrance way, as a kind of Mafia-like memento mori. Somewhat like the horse's head in the movie The Godfather -- but nowhere nearly as imaginative ...

Ummm yes it IS pretty obvious that someone is stirring the pot. The most likely culprits are the red shirts. I seem to remember bombs in the UK some years back and the culprits called and warned where and when they would blow. To NOT kill .. but to get attention. Now, back to Thailand, remember the self-appointed UDD leader Sae Daeng....?

Even Thaksin knows that to go from 0 to 100 in 1 second would lose most of his already diminishing support. Not even his people (not the rabid thugs like Sae Daeng, RakCM51 or the Udon group .. but the lingering rather normal people) would stand for REAL attacks on the Supreme Ct or Government House unless there were yellow shirts there at the time. (again remember Sae Daeng .. grenades .. 18 dead...)

Most of the people of Thailand love Thaksin. He is the LEGALLY ELECTED PM of THAILAND who was ousted by the opposition leaders with the help of the military. Popular vote elected him to office. The Thai military took over when Thaksin was out of the country on a trip. If you have been in Thailand long you would know that corruption is the norm here. All politicians are basically on the take.........and them calling Thaksin crooked is quite a joke.

The politicians should play nice, as all this unrest hurts this beautiful country & it's people. JMHO

Clearly you havent been here this long but Taksin from what I understand knows what he is doing (even if its maybe not understandable to others... and not logically...))

1. Its NOT our problem. Thais have to get their hands dirty and dig him out where ever he is (g)

THAT could be a problem...

Reason is obviously that Taksin has so many contacts from his time in goverment that he likely know exactly who took

what during the last 20 odd years... He was in the police...

2. the guy has from what I heard always been kind of crooked... Like AIS which he started with a Farang who got cheated....

That guy still hasnt got his money back.

As you say, that guy also tried going to court but why he did it with Taksin as PM, NO idea.

3. He was CORRUPTLY elected. The rest of your arguments, well, they could be correct... But he wasn't legally ellected.
