Pull out whats left of my hair......

Xbox Live

Can connect - all network connections test ok. no NAT issues either.

Can see some menu's, but can access live content such as demo's. Get Error 80072ee2 ( see so often can type with out looking for my notes )

Just bought a port configurator to be sure port forwarding done right ( .....still no luck ).

Using a SMC SMC7904BRA2 Modem ( the thing which connects to the internet )

WRT54GC 1.00.7 Wireless Router from Linksys .

- Have manually set IP to 192.168.1.180 - SMC modem distributes the IP's for others (but range set from 1-254)

SMC on 254

Router on 1

Questions:-

- I tried port forwarding in the router, and Xbox live failed, so assuming only port forwarding to be set in SMC modem (??)

- Any other things i might have missed?

This is really driving me nuts

LOL......

get this.......

- Changed IP from Dynamic to Static ( Fixed ) fixed on 192.168.1.220

- Bought PFConfig programme to set up Port forwarding – set and tested - working.

- Port forwarding 53,80,88,3074 TCP / UDP set and tested as required ( test – working – port open )

- DHCP pool is from 1 to 199. Gateway on 192.169.1.254

- DNS – received from IP provider and manually configured.

- Test Xbox Live Connection = Live and up and running, not issues, no NAT.

- Cleared Cache & Reformatted Hard disk

AND........DRUM ROLL...........

one last ditch effort to clear the cache....and it finally works.

I think the port forwarding, Setting True DNS, manual IP did the trick

Bad side is i have wasted alot of @#$!@%@ time. ( cummulative maybe 20 hours )

Good side - learnt alot now about how modems and routers work

my nephew made me a water cooled Xbox....... cool ........ from his mother board and using my DVD /casing. He seemed to think the region was linked to the DVD drive, but, pretty sure now its linked to the Mother board as my Japan based games dont work ( Halo3, BF2 etc ).

Anyone have a stupid game they dont want to sell ( or better, loan for a few days ? ) - just need to test that it is indeed now a Region 4 set up versus the japan.

Thx.

What region is region 4?

Region 4 is what they use in Australia. My new Motherboard is from Oz and i / we suspect the motherboard defines the region as the DVD's ( games ) from oz played ok, where as my old asian region ones dont now.

NHJ - Nephew came up with an interesting comment - we tested the Xbox in Oz ( which now has an Oz mother board, and the Asian/japanese version DVD from my old Xbox ) ..... and it worked - no re-flashing DVD as u mentioned.

( p.s. - why does Google Ads mention about Colonic Irrigation for this thread - maybe an Anal topic ? ) :)

Thanks for the info. I modded my xbox360 but was thinking of buying an unmodded one for xbox live. I guess I'll just have to continue playing multiplayer on the PS3. Not good for multiplayer either but at least I'm not paying for a bad service.

Did you try setting the xbox as the DMZ? I also had some trouble connecting to xbox live at first but after setting it as the DMZ, everything was ok. I played a MW2 games online (I hadn't modified my xbox 360 yet) and it kept connecting to the US. Bad but playable lag. Not too different from my PS3 so I decided to just mod the xbox. Only problem now is that I won't connect to live anymore for fear of being banned and losing the dashboard functions and I have to make sure I get region free or region 1 copied games. I've started to just download the games and burn them myself instead of paying 120 for copies.
