Is The Intensive Thai Course At Chula Stil Running?

Featured Replies

Hi there, I am new to the forum, but have read the threads about the Intensive Thai Coures at Chulalongkorn and am interested in finding out more. I studied a bit of Thai language in the UK, but would like to enrol in a full-time course - by the sounds of it Chulalongkorn (although expensive) is the best. However, the links on the Chula website don't work, and I haven't received a response from the email I sent to the faculty. I notice that some of the posts here are from a while ago, so I was wondering if anyone knew whether it was still running? If so, I would be grateful if someone could provide me with an email address for them, and I would be interested to hear about anyone who is curently studying, or has recently studied this course. Many thanks

what the course that you interest , may be I can check for you

:)

That's strange, seems like the page on their site went down very recently. I sent the link to someone who asked me about it by email only a few weeks ago.

Yes, the course is still running.

Drop me a PM for information.

They just changed the link without putting a redirect in there . . . so everywhere else I've posted the link it needs to be revised, not sure where to start! Anyhow, now the Chula Intensive Thai site is http://www.arts.chula.ac.th/~asc/Intensive_Thai.html - go visit, it has the descriptions, schedules, etc.

I've been taking it 5 weeks at a time with long breaks in between. If you use Thai all the time, as I do, and review vocabulary in between 5-week modules, this works well. 5 weeks at a time I can handle, even though it's pretty intense, but I see a lot of the students who go straight through stressing out tremendously. Also I think that you're given so much material each five weeks that it's better to review and consolidate your knowledge before moving on, otherwise a lot of the stuff gets forgotten almost as fast as you learn it.

That said, however you do it, it can be a great experience. Just brace yourself!

Montrii - I am also very interested to attend an intensive Thai course. I am currently attending at a school 2x per week - but find progress too slow. Therefore my question to you is - do they have any "placement tests". I can read and speak Thai now - on what I would classify "lower - lower intermediate level".

Tx

The intensive Thai program at Chula is still on. I was there in January, met a faculty member, and asked a lot of questions about it. Thirty new vocabulary words per day. He said many of the students are highly motivated Japanese managers sent by their companies to learn Thai for their jobs. They work very hard and expect to get 100 on every test.

I plan to move to enroll when I move to BKK next year.

Yes, they do have placement test.
