Citizenship

Featured Replies

I've got a friend who want to give up his Singapore citizenship, his plan is to migrate to Thailand and wish to obtain Thai citizenship.

What should he do to obtain Thai citizenship using the fast route or any other options?

There are no fast routes to citizenship in Thailand. Start with PR (3 years+ but more likely 6 years + if you include waiting on a decision on your application).

Once your have PR, then wait again...

... and hope that your 'friend' can speak Thai too

:)

For more information on PR, which as said is the starting point to citizenship, have a read of the pinned topic Camerata's Guide to the PR Process.

When you get to that stage, I do not think there is any requirement to give up your old citizendship

in order to become Thai.

Not from the Thai side, but Singapore doesn't allow dual citizenship and you will lose it when you acquire another nationality.

Especially if you've a lot of money lock up in Singapore's Central Provisional Fund (CPF) before retirement age,

and lots of love for LOS, believe me...you'd consider getting out...LOLX!!!

The CPF money are good for investment and motive for getting out of S'pore hectic live style.
