Contract Work On Non-o Visa

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Had a quick question about contractual work within Thailand on a Non-o Visa when working within a USA Company? My boss was not too sure as he has never really contracted people in so I though coming here would be a good place to ask. Do I need a work permit for this type of work even if its just for a month? And if yes, will I need to change over to another visa type?

Thanks,

Dan

Anyone that is not Thai who works in Thailand needs a work permit, even contractors.

Non Imm O is good for working purposes

Correct, no change of visa is needed. A non-O will do to get a work permit, but yu will need a lot of paperwork. Can't say if you will get a work permit.

Thanks for the replies! I have another 9 months on this visa atm which is why It would be better to stay on this. Would you say it would be easier to get a WP on another type?

The thing is, the company want to hire me (long term) but short term they do not have anything other than a few contractual jobs for a month or two..so im not sure what would be the best option for me and the company.

Do you have any doubts for myself getting a WP Mario, knowing my situation?

You have the right visa, (unless you are here on an extension of stay based on retirement). No need to change.

The WP will be given if the company does have enough Thai's working there and there is enough capital. Next they will look at the job itself, if it is a job Thai can do they will deny. Also some jobs are restricted to Thais only. Your employer might want to hire a lawyer to guide him trough the process if this is the first time.

Ah, well this is designing sound / sound effects / composing etc for an XBOX games developer. This restricted for only Thais?!

I know half of the staff are Thai but about shareholders and capital, no clue - seems pretty comfortable atm.

Ok, I will talk to them and see what they say about a lawyer, thank you very much for the help!

Much love TV!

Afaik your job is not on any restricted list. And could easily be proven to need you as a 'special professional' in your field.

Was recently employed long-term by a company that developed xbox(360) games locally, might be something to look into also. There are a few of them out there.

(Or try to get employed halftime locally, get WP, extension based on work/family income and then the off-hour contract work might be something you can handle anyway...)

Also, what did you mean by your last paragraph..not quite sure what you were getting at :)

I'll PM you.
