Strange Shoppee payday sale pricing (fridge)

Featured Replies

Unhappy with my latest fridge, Hisense 8.8Q (5,200bht).

Emergency purchase last Sept when my LG unexpectedly failed.

Wasn't very good, a bit too small and didn't get cold enough.

So browsing Shoppee last night and saw the TCL 4 door 14Q for 9,600bht in the sale, got distracted and went to bed without ordering. This morning woke up and looked to see if it was still on sale, it was but price now 9,200bht and ordered. Midday, and looked to see if my order progressing, immediately a popup appears offering the same fridge for 8,400bht. So I cancel my order and reorder at the new price.

I'm a little confused why a shop would offer the same product at 3 different prices in less than 18hrs. I was happy with the original sale price so what are they up to?

I add the item to the cart and then go back to the home screen. Usually the products you just viewed will be offered on a video sale for a discounted price.

it might be a shopee discount thing rather than the shop, shop may not even be aware. Some algorithm

Go big or go home. just Got rid of our 9 Q fridge and have a new 23.2 q fridge. ta Toshiba for 24 K.

These special sales periods are always limited to certain days or sometimes only hours and a certain quantity which is reserved. My guess is that Lazada/Shopee do offer more discount if the sold quantity is not reached and they want to get rid of the remaining items in stock.

Forget about pricing, that's the least of the worries. I bought something that cost twice what you’re paying, and here’s the much bigger problem.

If you’re buying a refrigerator, washing machine, or any other large appliance online from Lazada or Shopee, here’s one lesson I learned the hard way.

Do not buy from a seller that uses a third party shipping company. Buy only from a seller that delivers with their own trucks and staff. It should clearly state in the product listing, under the delivery options, that the seller uses the “seller’s own fleet.” Otherwise, you’re taking a big risk.

I went through four washing machines before I finally received one that wasn’t damaged.

The first three all arrived damaged. Each time, the delivery company dumped the machine in my building lobby, and I had to haul it upstairs myself, unpack it, discover the damage, take photos, file a claim, print a return shipping label, pack it back up, move it downstairs again, arrange a pickup, and then wait about two weeks for a refund. It was a huge waste of time and energy.

The first two damaged machines came from Lazada. I switched to Shopee, thinking it was just bad luck with one platform. The third machine arrived damaged too.

To make things worse, that third machine was damaged even more during the return shipment. The seller disputed the refund, so I had to prove that I packed it correctly and that most of the damage was already there when I received it. The only reason I got my money back was because I had recorded the entire unboxing. Without that video, I probably would have lost.

After almost six weeks of dealing with deliveries, returns, and refunds, I finally realized the problem wasn’t bad luck. It was the third party shipping companies.

I eventually found a seller located close enough to use their own delivery fleet. The difference was unbelievable.

Their staff brought the machine all the way into my apartment, unboxed it, plugged it in, made sure everything worked, and waited while I inspected every inch of it with a flashlight. It was in perfect condition. The whole process took about 15 minutes, with no stress and no aggravation.

Every time another damaged machine showed up, I kept telling myself, “This can’t keep happening.” I couldn’t understand how companies could stay in business if expensive appliances kept arriving damaged. I assumed each one was just a one time incident. It wasn’t. It happened three times before I accepted that this was simply the risk of a seller using third party freight for heavy appliances.

I also consider myself lucky. I eventually received refunds for all three damaged machines, but the third one was close. If I had not recorded the unboxing on video, I doubt I would have gotten my money back.

The worst part was the last machine I had to return. Somehow the shipping company had completely removed the heavy protective base that the machine left the seller’s warehouse on. During transit, the base must have been damaged somehow, and they simply rewrapped the bottom of the machine in plain cardboard. When I unpacked it, the missing protective base was exactly where much of the damage had occurred. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Maybe other people have had better experiences, but mine was enough. I’ll never order a large appliance again unless the seller delivers it using their own truck and staff.

Think about how these third party shipping networks work. Your appliance may be loaded onto one truck, unloaded at a sorting facility, loaded onto another truck, unloaded again, and transferred five or six times before it finally reaches your home, five to six days after leaving the seller’s location. Every transfer is another opportunity for a heavy appliance to be dropped, bumped, banged, or mishandled.

When a seller uses their own delivery fleet, the appliance usually goes directly from the warehouse onto one truck and is delivered by the seller’s own staff. They’re far more likely to handle it carefully because they’re responsible for both the delivery and any damage.

Even if it does arrive damaged, you can simply refuse delivery while the crew is still there, and they can take it back immediately. You don’t have to drag it into your home, document everything, repackage it, carry it back downstairs, arrange a return shipment, and spend weeks fighting for a refund.

After what I went through, I’d never take that risk again.

Assuming you have no experience with this, otherwise you wouldn’t be asking such questions.

Every one of these appliances sold online comes with a manufacturer warranty. That isn't an issue. What the warranty does not cover is physical damage during shipping.

If I had bought the exact same model from HomePro, Power Buy, or the manufacturer’s own online store, it would have cost about 50% more. As I already said, buying online was never the problem. The delivery method was. In the end, I got one in perfect condition and still saved 50%.

The only mistake I made was not knowing where the real pitfall was from the start. Now I do.

Aaahh..so it needs to be via a mobile phone application.

Surveillance pricing is the norm now. Wait until they put digital price tags in stores.

Fun times ahead.

Yes. And you have to collect the discount and promotion vouchers within the app.

The difference might be that we did not collect the same discount vouchers within the app.

No voucher collection required in Shoppee, they assign them to you.

And in my OP, there were 3 different prices offered me within 18hrs.

I'm of the same mind set. I wouldn't do it either.

It’s a minefield out there, you really need to watch your step.

After a couple of failed electronics and a few items VERY different from their photos, I've made it a point NOT to order anything from Lazada, Shopee, or Temu that costs more than 400 Baht. It's a bit of a bother to have to go to the stores to buy the bigger items, but without all the back-and-forth hassle of making big-dollar returns. I prefer to simplify my life.
I do a LOT of ordering from these companies every week. And when one of them arrives looking very different from the advert, it's no big deal. I either return it or eat it. It's only a couple of hundred baht, and no stress either way.

If the price is only slightly cheaper online, then I agree, buy locally. But the machine was literally 30K from a large local retail vendor and only 20K online for the exact same machine with a full manufacturer’s warranty. These online sellers also have thousands of positive reviews, so there is nothing questionable about buying an appliance online from one of these platforms.

As I said, it all comes down to the shipping method. As long as the seller handles the delivery themselves, there should not be a problem. In the end, I bought it from a seller located only about 30 km away and it arrived in perfect condition. They are a legitimate appliance retailer with a large showroom, so I think it was worth buying online rather than paying another 50% for the same appliance at a local retailer. Wouldn’t you agree?

The aggravation I experienced could have been completely avoided if I had understood the shipping issue from the beginning and chosen a seller that handled their own deliveries. That was the only weak link in the entire process.

Also, this topic is about buying a large refrigerator from one of these platforms, and a refrigerator is twice the physical size of a washing machine. The fact that the OP and thousands of other people successfully buy appliances through these online platforms shows that the issue is not the platform itself, but choosing the right seller and delivery method.

You do not automatically receive all the vouchers. At least not in my experience. I always check in the voucher section and find additional benefits.

Without a doubt, that is the right way to go.

I've just had the same argument with my other half.

This is the third time she has ordered products and then been hugely disappointed when they arrive, I then get' It's not the same as the picture!! ' I explained yet again, that it never is.

I differ from you, I don't like ordering online any more and if a few baht more buying locally, I'll do that instead as I can see what we are getting.

Latest piece of junk is a stainless steel spice rack!!!!!!

She's substituted online wheel spinners (gambling) for online shopping!

I'm fairly sure the TCL official store only sells TCL products.

The retail price is 15,000bht often discounted to around 11,000bht, but I've not seen it before at 8,400bht.

I've bought it COD, so if it arrives in a damaged box, it'll be staying on the delivery van, I won't be paying for it.

Ordering large items online is still a real nuisance.

A few weeks ago, I ordered a wine fridge from Lazada; it was supposed to be delivered within a few days, but nothing came of it. After 10 days, I had to cancel the order – unfortunately, I’d paid in advance, so now I’m just waiting for my money back.

I’ve now ordered the same item from Shopee; the advert says ‘free delivery’, but the seller told me that delivery charges are always applied.

I tried once more to point out that delivery was free, but the reply I got was that it was a good product and if I didn’t want it, then so be it.

I decided to have it delivered anyway; it arrived within two days. The packaging was intact, but when I opened it, I immediately spotted a large dent on the top. Perhaps he thought, ‘I’ll get that bloke one of these days.’

TCL, Hisense🤔...? Check the reviews. Buy a reputable brand like Hitachi or LG, it'll save you a lot of trouble.
