Community Controversial Chiang Mai Decorative Street Lamps to Be Removed Following Public Backlash
Picture courtesy of Amarin. The Department of Rural Roads (DRR) has ordered the complete removal of a series of decorative street lamps recently installed in Chiang Mai, following a wave of public criticism and concerns over their non-standard design. Mr. Montri Dechasakulsom, Director-General of the DRR, announced that the lamp posts installed along Rural Highway Route CM.2025, stretching from National Highway 11 to Rattanakosin Road in Mueang District, known locally as Atsadathon Road, do not meet the department’s 2018 national road lighting design standards. In response to the backlash, which gained traction across both traditional and social media, Mr. Montri said the DRR questioned the Chiang Mai Rural Roads District Office about the rationale behind the installation. The local office responded that the design aimed to reflect the cultural identity and architectural heritage of Chiang Mai. However, Mr. Montri stressed that all public infrastructure must comply with national standards to ensure consistency, safety, and fiscal accountability. “I have ordered the Chiang Mai office to dismantle the decorative lamp posts immediately,” Mr. Montri said. “They must redesign the lighting system to align with the Department of Rural Roads’ 2018 standards and complete construction as scheduled.” The removal follows weeks of public scrutiny, with many questioning the necessity, cost and aesthetic suitability of the elaborate lamp designs, which featured ornamental elements not typically seen on public roadways. Mr. Montri further stated that a directive has been issued to all Rural Roads offices nationwide, instructing them to adhere strictly to the department’s approved designs. He also urged close monitoring of all future lighting and infrastructure projects to maintain efficiency, safety and compliance with national policy. “The intention may have been to support tourism and enhance road safety,” Mr. Montri added, “but public works must follow standardised procedures to avoid miscommunication and unnecessary controversy.” The decorative lamp posts are being removed from Atsadathon Road and new installations will be carried out under the DRR’s standard guidelines. That is what AI tells an that is my personal experience with high doses melatonin also: While melatonin does not have a strong sedative effect in the way that sleeping pills do, it can help promote sleepiness and improve sleep quality by regulating the body's natural sleep-wake cycle. It essentially helps create an environment conducive to sleep rather than directly knocking someone out. Here's a more detailed explanation: Melatonin as a sleep regulator: Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body that helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm). Not a traditional sedative: Unlike some medications that induce sleep, melatonin doesn't have a strong sedative effect. It won't make you feel drowsy or heavily sedated in the same way a sedative would. Promotes sleepiness: Melatonin helps prepare the body for sleep by signaling that it's time to rest. This can make it easier to fall asleep and improve sleep quality. May help with insomnia: For some people, particularly those with insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep), melatonin can be helpful in regulating their sleep patterns and promoting sleepiness. Not a strong hypnotic: Melatonin is not as potent as a strong hypnotic drug that would cause a significant sedative effect. It's more of a gentle nudge towards sleepiness rather than a forceful push. Individual responses vary: The effect of melatonin can vary from person to person. Some individuals may experience a greater sense of sleepiness than others. Potential for use in anesthesia: Melatonin is being explored for its potential in anesthesia, including as a pre-medication to reduce anxiety and improve sleep during the perioperative period -

Accident Two Dead After Truck Hits Pedestrian and Crashes Into Another Truck in Chachoengsao
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A crash on the morning of 12 July, on Suwinthawong Road in Chachoengsao province has claimed two lives after a 10-wheel truck collided with a pedestrian before crashing into the rear of a 22-wheel trailer truck. Police from Mueang Chachoengsao Station were alerted to the incident near Wat Ton Tan, Village No. 5, Wang Takhian Subdistrict. Upon arrival, officers found the 22-wheel trailer truck (license plate from Pathum Thani) parked by the roadside with rear-end damage. The 10-wheel truck (license plate from Saraburi), which was carrying cargo of glass, destined for delivery, had severe front-end damage and scattered vehicle parts littered across the road. The driver of the 10-wheeler was found dead behind the wheel. Nearby, the body of a male pedestrian, believed to be a Myanmar national, was also found. It is suspected that he was struck by the 10-wheeler before the vehicle crashed into the 22-wheeler. Rescue volunteers recovered the truck driver’s body from the vehicle and transported both deceased individuals to Phutthasothon Hospital for autopsy. Mr. Somwang 59, the driver of the 22-wheel truck, told police he had stopped by the roadside to inspect his vehicle before continuing his delivery to a major shopping mall. Moments later, the 10-wheeler crashed into the rear of his truck. Authorities are currently collecting evidence from the scene and reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision. An investigation is ongoing, and legal proceedings will follow. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-07-13 -
