I am helping my Thai friend to apply for a short stay private visit visa.

The application will give departure and return dates (about 25 days stay)

Does the visa (when granted) will be for the actual 25 days or will it be for 3 months maximum stay within 6 months ?

Also the application will state first point of entry Frankfurt although most of the stay will be in a third country towhich embassy the application will be made. Can that first point of entry be changed later or will it be imposed in the conditions of the visa ?

I have found a cheaper and more convenient fare through another Shengen gateway....

Thanks for our help

I think you only get what you ask for.

My wife got 21 days for tourist visa at the Italian embassy in BKK for a trip to Italy and Holland last year. The itinerary we submitted actually shows the duration of the trip as 17 days but she asked for 21 days.

Hi,

Did the visa start actually on the date you asked for also or is it flexible ?

Does the visa itself mention the entry country into Shengen ?

I was told not to ask for 90 days as it is a hint that it is not a genuine 'holiday' as no company/employed with rare exceptions would benefit from such a long vacation period

Thanks

The validity of visa itself is six months and it shows it was valid from two days before our departure date and the date it expires six month after. There's no mentioning what date you should arrive and leave the Shengen.

It also doesn't mention the entry country. It just says "valid for STAIT SCHENGEN" But it shows large capital letter "VISTO" which I think means visa in Italian so it's probably obvious to the immigration officer that Italy is the designated entry country to Shengen.

you can visit any schengen country, the entry port is unimportant as long as you apply to the schengen state that is the main stay of your trip. However you can apply to the country of entry and again this will suffice.

Apply for the max 90 day multi entry visa and if you don't require a start date the visa will start on the date that they process your application.

Hi,

To reply to my own question for others :

We applied for a short stay private visit visa for the Shengen countries.

The travel dates given were from 29 August to the 25 of Septmber or 28 days

The visa application was accepted on day 1 and an interview was scheduled for the same afternoon.

At the end of simple interview, told to come and pick-up passport on day 3 at 10am, waited 30 minutes, told visa not signed yet, apologies, asked to come back on day 4 at 10am

Picked-up passport with visa on day 4

The visa is valid for a 30 days stay, single entry.

The entry must occurbetween the 20 August and the 3rd of October (they seem to give a one week before and one week after the given travel dates)

All in all a painless process
