"but cant really be bothered applying for a visa"

Sorry who are you? Some sort of visa exempt person? Please feel free to just fly over to Vietnam without a visa, then we will see how they "feel" about you.

Unbelievable!

Rodent,

didn't your parents ever teach you, if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all?

Naam, your post is one of the reasons I am happy to sift through all the negativity on TV. Thank you for that useful link.

No, you can't get a visa on arrival in Vietnam. If you don't want to get a Visa beforehand, you'll need to arrange for a Pre-Approved Visa. You can do this through many travel agencies. I've used this one many times.

of course you get a visa on arrival based on an online application.

You get a Pre-Approved Visa added to your passport. Visa on arrival is not the correct wording. Visa on arrival is what you get in Cambodia. Without the pre-approval letter, you will not be allowed to board your flight to Vietnam.

Recently, Laos authority has intended to boost tourism by allowing travelers to obtain visa stamp at their International Airport - Vientiane or at the overland border crossing points of Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge near Nongkai.

1. Holds return/onward ticket and all documents required for next destination,

2. Holds Certificate of Bank Statement (min. USD 400.-) or life insurance policy

3. Holds confirmed hotel reservation in Laos.

4. Pay visa stamp fees of USD 30 to the Immigration.

For Vietnam visa see below:

Tourist hotels are cheap and inviting. The staffs are helpful and courteous. You can travel from town to town with out a reservation and always find suitable lodging.

Getting a visa to Vietnam is fast and easy.Get the form off of the net, file it out go to the Vietnames embassy on Wireless road hand it over with the fee. They will ask you if you want to pay extra to get it back the next day.We said no they then told us to come back the next day to pick it up anyway.Fast and easy, little to no wait both days.

Well, he does have a point, it becomes even a more important point if people would try and enter Vietnam on land borders, as then they will HAVE TO apply for a visa beforehand, as the pre-approved visa is only valid at international airports, not land borders. Unless of course they hold a nationality that is visa exempt for Vietnam, but that's a pretty short list. On the top of my head, for "Farang" nationalities, only a few Scandinavian countries hold that exempt status for a maximum of 14 days.

Some Asian nationalities (including Thailand and Laos) will get 30 days.

In any case the pre-approved visa will incurr a stamp fee, making it a pretty expensive visa, as opposed to go to Wittayu and get one at the Vietnamese Embassy, and as described it's a question of fill in form, pay cash and get back after 4 days (normal fee) or next day (2400 baht express fee).

Regarding both Laos and Cambodia, they offer visa on arrival, 20 USD for Cambodia, Laos will charge based upon Nationality. Most Europeans pay 35 USD, Canadians 42.

Not so fast now. Went to Vietnam embassy yesterday and the processing time now for a non-express visa is now 4 days (applied and paid on Monday, pick up on Thursday)

1600 THB fee at the Embassy.

Application yesterday cost 1,800 baht.

So it's now slower and more expensive.

A less-than-desirable dual combination. :annoyed:

Vietnam for 1 week ( flying BKK-SIAGON), Australian and Thai ... Do both of us require a pre-approval Visa letter ? We need to apply in Bangkok ?

Do we not receive a Visa exempt stamp at the airport in Vietnam on arrival ?

Thanks for any feedback ... I have read many posts on this and this is confusion on what is available .. I'm confused as well as a couple of older posters I read..

Thanks.jap.gifunsure.png
