Browsing Google Earth

Featured Replies

Just to lighten the mood a little, I was just browsing through google earth and called up Haiti. They have a 2010 photo of Haiti. Can anyone see anything unusual about the runway at Haiti International Airport.

I downloaded google earth yesterday from both the US and UK google sites but when I open it everything is in Thai, anyone know if the language can be changed or where I can get an English language version?

I see the 2 planes at the end of the runway

Something not quite right there

:)

A quick looks I see two aircraft ready to depart and two others that appear to be in taxi mode to terminal. Appears no side taxiway so runway has to be used for everything and busy and all entry/exit from midpoint of runway. But I am not a pilot so may have missed something - I do know it is not normal for aircraft to be landing from different ends but as one very small and for all I know perhaps one was prepared to take off and is returning or changing ends.

I hope the two heading toward each other are not taking off - but shadows seem to show them on the ground.

And the white plane looks like the tail has broken off

:D

Seems like one plane is landing at the far left end of the runway (by the looks of the shadow. The little one in the middle may have just landed and the large military may be taxiing back. Whatever it is, I am glad I am not in any of those aircraft given that one is landing.

On second glance it appear it is one aircraft landing at west end and the black is the shadow - hopefully the small aircraft will have exited the runway before he gets that far and he will stop before the large aircraft heading the other way. Military control I suspect and maximum use of runway.

Interesting photo! Looks like a game of "chicken" on the runway.

Ah, those Norwegian divers - always good for a laugh. Sitting around by the side of the road waiting for the Google camera van to go past just so they can get their photo on the Internet. :)

The small plane landing(landed and but still running on runway) and the military plan both have the same angle from body-to-shadow, meaning they are both on the runway together. Assume when the little plane is clear the military plane will take off.

The white plane landing on the left or western end of the runway has a very different shade angle to the other two planes. The picture of the white plane was taken from a different satellite position, different time of day and overlay-ed onto the other. Google Earth and Google maps are made up of thousands of overlays, in this case we have an interesting photo! Nice one Blinky

Didn't know that about all the overlays. That certainly puts my mind at ease for any future travel plans. Thanks Jayjayjayjay
