Visa For New Born British Child To British Parents

Featured Replies

Hi,

I hope someone here can help with our conundrum. A definitive answer is most appreciated.

Our daughter was born at BNH Hospital Bangkok Feb 2010. All happy and healthy! We are both British Nationals on multi entry non imm B visas. I have a WP my partner does not.

We are in the process of registering our daughters birth and applying for a British Passport at the Embassy in Bangkok. I inquired about a visa for our daughter and was told to speak to immigration since they had heard many conflicting accounts about what needs to be done.

My partner went to immigration several months ago when pregnant and asked about what to do for a visa when our daughter is born. They said speak to your Embassy!

Needless to say this does not help us and we desperately need information on what to do in this situation.

Since she was born here do we need a visa? When she gets a British passport and travels I imagine a visa will be required. I have also heard that children born to foreign nationals are exempt for some time (not sure if this is correct)

Nobody seems to have the right answer.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

This is not really a problem. When she leaves Thailand for the first time just show the birth certificate together with her passport. This shows why she doesn't have a arrival card etc. There is no overstay fine for children under 15 anyway, so you have till than to make her first trip out of Thailand. When she returns to Thailand she will need a visa (exampt entry) etc.

Congratulations!

In essence that is correct.

Actually what happens is as the child did not physicaly enter Thailand, she does not need a visa. You apply for a British Passport (Embassy) and then take that and the birth certificate to immigration and they grant her a visa based upon yours.
