Prime Minister talks up Thailand as producer of quality

BANGKOK: -- Thailand should not be seen a source of cheap labour, such as China and India, but a quality producer with higher skills, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra told industrialists today.

He said foreign investors should adjust how they look at Thailand accordingly. He also urged them to consider investing with an aim to using local materials and to promote free trade.

The prime minister was speaking at an annual industry awards ceremony.

He noted that Japanese and US firms were also among the awardees alongside local companies, illustrating the close ties between Thailand and those foreign investors contributing to Thailand's ambition to become the "Detroit of Asia" -- the region's auto-industry hub.

Industry Minister Wattana Muangsook, meanwhile, pledged his full support to enable local small and medium enterprises to compete on the global market.

Quality???? Didn't Honda (Thailand) prove to the world just a few short months ago that they have a 'different' level of 'quality' here in the LOS??

That level will be a looooong time coming.

Mr T should ask any one of 60 million Thais if they would rather buy an electrical appliance made in Thailand, or one made in Malaysia.
