Chang beer will be filming television commercials for Thailand, during 3 days (March 21-23) in the Khao San Road area. The production house is looking for several hundred FARANG men and women. The pay is 2000THB net for a 12-hour (max) work day.

Some details:

- This job is not dependent upon your visa status, and does not require a work permit.

- Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

- As a working set, no alcohol is allowed.

- You will likely be working in close quarters, so take a shower and wear clean clothes.

- Farangs ONLY. Leave your Thai partner at home.

- You must be at least 21 years old. Children are not allowed on the set, and child care will not be provided.

- You will likely be walking around, so you must be able-bodied: no canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.

- The shooting will be several minutes of activity, followed by hours of waiting, followed by more activity. Bring a book, or an iPod.

- If you are escorted off the set for lack of cooperation, you will not be paid.

- You must have all ten fingers.

"Really?"

Really!

The biggest hoot is the requirement for "all 10 fingers". Several years ago, Chang shot a commercial, edited, and ran the TVC. They realized, only after it was broadcast, that the lead actor was missing a finger. The jokes were that:

1. drinking beer causes birth defects

2. drinking beer causes you to pick fights, and to lose fingers

So, before anyone is allowed on set, your fingers will get counted.

How is it possible that a work permit isn't required?

Could they be using this Work Permit exemption clause?

Exemptions

Exemptions from the Work Permit requirement are granted to persons occupying the following professions:

* Members of the diplomatic corps

* Members of consular missions

* Representatives of member countries and officials of the United Nations and its specialized agencies

* Personal servants coming from abroad to work exclusively for persons listed under the above items

* Persons who perform duties on missions in the Kingdom under an agreement between the government of Thailand and a foreign government or international organization

* Persons who enter the Kingdom for the performance of any duty or mission for the benefit of education, culture, arts, or sports

* Persons who are specially permitted by the Government of Thailand to enter and perform any duty or mission in the Kingdom.

Although 'acting' in a beer ad seems to be a stretch. :)

"If you are escorted off the set for lack of cooperation, you will not be paid."

I love this paragraph... :)

8/10 years ago, I went -just for fun- on a commercial shooting.

That was for Kloster's beer... anyone remember it ?!?

Anyway, after 10 minutes of waiting, I got bored and left the premises without being paid, of course!

But that happened in Prachuap Kiri Kan, so while waiting the others for the bus back to Bangkok, I drank all the day the beers that I was not supposed to touch while "working". :D

If this is above board, why isn`t the OP giving his/her name?

No way would I send any of my personal details to a hhgz.

In Thailand, if we work, we require work permits, unless the hhgz can explain how being employed by Chang makes us excempt?

ALL work in Thailand, including unpaid volunteer work requires non-thais to obtain a work permit. Unless the OP can show otherwise and give more information I would warn others not to give out their personal info.
