1950's Sweet Island Song?

Featured Replies

I am doing a surprise video project for a nice southern Khun Yai (b.Samui, moved to Koh Tao in '54), and I need a background song - hopefully one she actually heard as a young woman.

I want to find a song that would make her remember her childhood sweetly.

Ideally the song would be from the early-mid 1950's, and be themed/titled along the lines of:

"Island Girl"

"Sweet Samui Sunset"

"Gosh, The Fish Jump High!"

or something like that. But anything would be fine!

I don't have a clue where to start, so if someone has a nice mp3, and a little history of the song, I would be eternally grateful (and I could give you some music if you like...)

Anyone?

Your first posting was worded such that I understood it to be asking for Thai songs that an old Thai lady would remember from the '50s. I most humbly suggest you are asking the wrong people when you ask expats and Thai Visa lurkers.

I would try going to a good CD/DVD store and ask about some of the old singers. I know they have them; I just saw one made at a recent show featuring a very famous 70 year old Thai male vocalist. It included some duets with some of his old female singer partners, singing songs that they made popular some 30-40 years ago. The sales clerks should be able to help you find some VCDs/DVDs that you can listen to and then copy the particular track you want to use.

Thanks all.

Yes - I need a THAI song (thanks for the list though).

I think a VCD DVD place is a great idea - cheers.

I need a Thai version of Harry Belafonte!
