Learning Thai Part-time

Featured Replies

Hi

I would like to study Thai part-time, perhaps 2 lessons per week. It seems most schools are full-time with several classes per day, which is not possible for me as I will be working. Private sessions seem much more expensive.

Also, which is the 1)best 2) most affordable school which is 3) near the BTS? I know this 'which is the best school' question has popped up several times, so which is it?

Any advice?

It's not that much more expensive, is more convenient (given what you say), and is probably more effective.

In any case, you can find the answers to your questions by looking at toddaniels posts in 'Best Thai Language School'. Start with the last post and work your way backwards till you're satisfied you have the answers.

Let us know which one you are likely to choose - there maybe additional comments coming from "out of the woodwork" - which may be worthwhile to consider. It would also be good to know at what level you are at present and what you would like to achieve.

Definitely follow the suggestion to read the toddaniels posts. My advice then is that whatever you choose, learn the alphabet and learn how to read Thai early in your studying. I used to think that I could learn to speak without reading but by the time you learn all the phonetic spellings with special symbols and letter combinations – I could have had a great head start on learning the Thai alphabet. Once you can read you can at least sound out the word properly.

I'm still learning but now I can at least read some signs when I see a word I know how to pronounce it. Just my 2 cents.
