Tourist Visas

I got a call yesterday from a long time friend of mine. He had just returned from Phnom Penh. He was told by the Thai immigration there NOT to come back for another tourist visa. The officer told him that he was giving him a 60 day visa but that was the last one he would receive there. My friend told me it was also stamped in his passport that he could not receive another visa from there. He qualifies for a retirement visa but apparently he is too stubborn to get one.

Simply a case of Tough Love, perhaps ?

It does happen. Some years ago I spent 18 months in Thailand without a job, just living off my savings. I made 4 trips to Penang for visa, about 90 days apart. I also had one overstay of 30 days. Anyway, on my 4th visit I was told it would be my last 90 day visa. No more visas possible. Fortunately I was contacted before that visa ran out, and offered a job. So I left Thailand to go to work.

In his case it makes sense to get a retirement visa.
