They will get frustrated. They don't have the majority support or the moral authority to pull off what they are demanding. They do have fermented fish. You figure it out ...

You're wrong again dude - they have majority support in the country as far as people i know - tuk tuks up here are flying red flags - I have yet to find any yellow fellows outside of BKK and this forum

Here here...........Good luck in the fight against dictatorship!

Some on here think over 50% of the population of Thailand need to be red protesters in Bangkok for this to be of any use. There are plenty who support but do not want to go to BKK or can't afford to go to BKK. The government should take notice of the good people of Thailand and call an election now.

Why?

There is a legally elected parliament in place voted in by a MAJORITY of the electorate. All they have to do to have an election is call a no confidence vote and win it. But that is problem; they can’t do that because the MAJORITY of the parliament supports the current government.

We keep hearing this over and over again.....here is how the international media see it. Thai protesters want new elections

14/03/2010 1:14:06 PM

CBC News

Tens of thousands of demonstrators rallied in Bangkok on Sunday, demanding the Thai government dissolve parliament and call new elections. They're protesting against political developments since 2006, when Thaksin was ousted by the military in a bloodless coup for alleged corruption and abuse of power. A party formed from the ashes of Thakin's Thai Rak Thai Party was elected to form the government in 2007, but that government was ordered disbanded by the courts for electoral fraud. The opposing party, made up of mainly of Thailand's Bangkok-based elite, was once again restored to power.

Oh dear...we get the army to get rid of Thaksin.....but all those stupid people go and elect his party again!!! What to do.....ah.....lets get them found guilty of "fraud" by our courts....then we can just put our own people back in power...simple and completely democratic.......if you don't mind stretching things a bit....

If we have another electon in 2011 and those bloody farmers and bee keepers win.........we still have the army...how can we lose???

I said long ago in many other threads that the foreign media is contradicting this stupid explanation from TV members that the current governement would be lawful.

Only result at that time was that I (and others) was constantly banned by the MOD's because I was posting ANTI-PAD material.

Good luck

tulsathit now reporting that the numbers are starting to drop considerably - some people decided not to return to govt house after going to the barracks.

Wonder if it's walking in the heat or parting with their blood that put them off?

Does anybody know the route the Red Shirts will take? I am only thinking about my commute from On-nutt to Central World for work.

Any updates would be welcome.

Take the skytrain. they won't bother you.

:)

Does anyone know if the rally will affect people getting to the airport from Sukhumvit ? Is it possible to get the Skytrain to the airport ? (I recall a while back this route was now open).

Are we not now reaching the point where the numbers become unimportant ? The "soft" support was always going to drop off, the hardliners and those more disposed to a fight will remain. Speaking for myself, 10,000 of those or even a fraction thereof is enough to cause carnage I would have thought.

nicely written and balanced article. From reading this, the UDD has a lot of work ahead if they want to convince the world they're for real about democracy.

Foreign Press Sees Possible Violence from Protests

UPDATE : 15 March 2010

The international press believes the red-shirt protesters will pressure the government until violence breaks out since their demand for a House dissolution was not met with.

As the foreign press continues to monitor the red-shirt demonstration, many believe the protesters' ultimatum on a House dissolution is almost impossible, meaning they must step up pressure on the government in the next few days.

BBC questioned whether the red-shirt leaders have the capability to control the gathering since the emotions of its members vary with some furious while others are calm.

The British news agency also said the red-shirt people must show that their peaceful demonstration is meant to change the society and is not a political tool for one man’s gain.

Malaysian newspaper the Star said since the government refused to meet the protesters' demand, the red-shirt group will not go anywhere because for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the demonstration is his last resort to be able to return to Thailand, clear his name of all charges and retrieve his seized assets.

The Star predicted that by comparing the ratio of protesters to security forces, it is very likely that violence will erupt.

Hong Kong’s Phoenix Television said three main factors will affect the situation, namely Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's ability to control the situation, the Army’s loyalty to the government and whether the red-shirt leaders intend to demand democracy or instigate violence.

The station has reported that Thaksin is currently residing in Europe and German authorities have prohibited him from entering Germany since last year. Investigations regarding the use of a fake passport to enter the country are being conducted.

In an interview with Bloomberg television this morning, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij stated that if the political protests continue, then the Thai economy will derail.

With the global economic recovery, he said Thailand’s economy has also been growing with last year’s fourth-quarter expansion of 5.8 percent compared to -7.1 percent at the beginning of 2009.

The finance minster also said that Thailand will lose its competitive edge since Malaysia and Vietnam have devalued their currency and cut interest rates for commercial advantages while Thailand faces an uncertain political situation.

Presumably they've thought ahead, and if so, they've probably already got most of the blood they'll need to pull this off. Cattle, pigs etc. It'll certainly look impressive, but could backfire if the PR goes against them for throwing away good blood.

Hmmm they didn't think ahead when they planned a "MILLION" man march, and I rather think the roadblocks would have found gallons and gallons of blood coming into the city unless it came packaed in living flesh.

The underlined section of the CBC report appears to contain a few errors or misunderstandings ?

1. The PPP were not "elected to form the government", although they did get a good result, they merely led the coalition of parties, which formed the government. Not quite the same thing.

2. It was the PPP, not the coalition-government itself, which was "ordered disbanded by the courts for electoral fraud".

3. Following which the Democrats, who were only one of several parties opposing PPP at the election, were not "once again restored to power", but were able with others to form a new coalition which formed the new government.

Somehow the complexities of Thai politics were too much for the overseas news-organisation, understandable perhaps, but not making their view-from-abroad any the more accurate or authoritative. :D

Lastly "those bloody farmers and bee keepers", I was unaware that bee-keepers were such an important part of the rural support for Thaksin, does anyone know why ? :)

You also missed out the obvious point that the Democrats are not "made up of mainly of Bangkok based elite", (don't these Canadians proof read, eh?) In fact, most of their MP's come from the rural South. I don't care who is doing the reporting, blatantly misleading errors such as these reveal it to be a poorly researched item and not worthy of serious attention.

Hmmm they didn't think ahead when they planned a "MILLION" man march,

Of course they did. What a catchy name. What great marketing.

However, they probably did not think that anyone would be dumb enough to think that they would know exactly how many protesters would actually march on Bangkok. :)

But even with that, earlier last week they were still predicting 600,000 ... then 300,000.

Maybe they were counting each day - 100,000 x 10 days = 1 million. Now they just need to last 10 days ... with 100,000 people.

Looks like a big and noisy crowd on redshirttv.com ... similar numbers to yesterday I would say

It'll dwindle soon enough when the needles come out.

Now with the demonstrations slowly bleeding down to nothing can we close all the topics save one for ongoing developments and go back to the regular trolling?

There are too many threads on this topic. Every time a Red Shirt throws a feces*, or each time Thaksin tells another lie (numerous times per day; where he's flying to, where he has not been kicked out of, etc. ad infinitum), there's a new thread. Too much monkey business.

* what's the singular for feces? ....fece?

What is a pant, is that one leg of a pair of pants?

....or a trouser or a dungaree, or a short?

Why are all things men wear between their waists and their ankles plural?

Agreed. Maybe get rid of half through consolidation might be a good idea.

Just saw a live pic of Government House. It is jammed. Things definitely could get crazy.

Hospitals are broadcasting on TV they will not draw blood for anybody.

they can just buy animal blood from the wet market don't you think?

and they can still use it for namtok noodle soup.

Close them down once they get to the standard "they did it too"/"elections" discussions ... ??

Obviously not that they thought their followers were dumb enough to believe it ? :) But why did the UDD-leaders keep repeating it, if they thought it was not true, isn't that what us non-marketing types call 'misleading advertising' or 'lies' ? :D

However since they've now fallen 90%-short, on their target for the march, presumably they will have plenty of 'expense-money', to return to their donor or fund future-activities ? And won't need to continue the appeals, over the village tannoy-system, for the collection to help keep poor Thaksin in coffee-and-cakes ? :D

Has Thaksin phoned in yet? Maybe he forget to bring a recharger that works in Montenegro.

yes, the very old looking and very exhausted old young man phoned in....

his 6 star hotel room looked very bare....

the furniture in his room looked very much like the 800 baht a piece stuff....

the curtain looked like from walmart or big c quality....

the vase in his room looked very much like something used in 999 hotel....

he said that he needed to put on a sweater because it was very cold in european country....

yes, he was timely informed that many redshirts from isaan have already been driving back to isaan....

but he encouraged every redshirt to stay and fight on....

he encouraged his former friends and political alliances to switch side now.... before it is too late....

he encouraged top brass in biz and military to leave their posts to protest against the current govt for its inability to govern....

he promised that when true democracy being handed back to the people.... the redshirt supporters would not be forgotten.... and that

they will be in the fore to be rewarded amply, more than they can ever imagine....

he encouraged the redshirts to stay and fight on until the victory is won.... however long, however difficult and however damning....

the redshirts must win.... they must win at long last, regardless of circumstances....

and he promised to be right behind them every step of the way.... to reclaim the former glory for the farmers and the poors....

he would be awaiting good news from the redshirts.... in europe.... with his family members closed by, all accounted for....

and he wished the redshirts--victory.... and victory at all cost.... and victory at long last....

and redshirts must seize victory as soon as possible at whatever cost.... so true democracy may be restored to the people....

-------

well, i was speechless and benumbed for a long time.... before i could recapitulate the above in bits and pieces....

believe what you may....

but the male escaped from thai justice prisoner appears to have aged considerably.... he appeared to look like 65 in his video....

Hey, you mean there will be accountability.

And perhaps their books will be audited. But i'm not sure if blood money is the same as stolen money?

And perhaps the correct taxes will be applied.

Well hey now, there's a few firsts.

How could they possibly know in advance how many people would show up in Bangkok? The Million Man March was just a clever slogan. It looks like it is true that there is a sucker born every minute.

Not clever at all. It made them look like the lack of Thaksin's funding made them incapable of managing their extravegant claims. !25k Not 1000K 1/8th of what they stated.....

nope ... not clever at all!
