I am thinking of inviting my girlfiend to spend a few weeks in the UK. But I am worried about the hassle of getting a visa and do not want her to be subjected to the rude and aggressive questioning I have heard is used by British immigration and now even Thai immigration.

So does anyone know roughly what she needs to do, how I can help (like with a letter, my phone number at work etc) and what she should/shouldn't tell the embassy/immigration about the purpose of her visit.

I am primarily worried about her saying that she is visiting a boyfriend, and being denied a visa on suspicion of intention to overstay. On the other hand, if she says, 'tourism', maybe they'll be suspicious.

She has a house and money in the bank and a car, and 'chanoots' for these things.

Any help/tips would be very welcome.

British immigration are supposed to satisfy themselves that your g/f will return to LOS and that she would not be a burden on the British taxpayer whilst in UK.

Therefore evidence of good and compelling reasons to return (employers' letter, house deeds, bank statements, etc.) should be provided.

They will want to know where she will be staying so your reference, bank statements, passport copy, etc. may also be helpful - just so long as it is clear that she will not "overstay" and will be supported whilst in the UK.

I have been thru' the same loop but we were staying together in HK. It would be better if you could go together to immigration and travel together. The officers can be very intimidating - even if/when she gets the visa immigration staff at Heathrow can also be very rude and could make all the difference to her to have you to "hold her hand".

There should not be a problem with Thai immigration once she has the necessary British visa.

Good luck!

If they know it's an ongoing relationship and that you will be applying for future visas, that will help.

My GF is basically an Issarn farm girl with nothing material to go back for, but she got her visa and I think it helped that I told them that I want to bring her back again next year rather than having to keep flying over there to see her.

I found it surprisingly easy, but maybe I was just lucky.

Hopefully the airport experience will go as smoothly.

Not that difficult getting a visit visa to the UK - IF you put the time in to do a decent application.

90% of v/v applications are approved.

A mountain of information on here about sponsors letters, filling in the forms, evidence of funds, accommodation, relationship etc etc etc..."Search" and ye shall find wink.png

When we applied for our first holiday visa we did not get any hassel or rude comments from anyone. also we never had any interviews, with both Holiday Visa and Settelment Visa. Where have you heard about rude agreesive questioning from. Also if you tell the truth there are no problems.
