Shipping In A Guitar Amplifier; Possible Or Not?

Recommended Posts

I would dearly like to freight over my guitar combo but have never attempted any such shipments before now, and have pushed it out of my mind after hearing horror stories about excessive duty etc.

I have a work permit and valid immigration status.

Could anyone offer any tips on this please?

Thanks!

It's possible to have one sent here, but very expensive from what I understand. You're usually better off buying one here. The prices are very affordable, and you can alway re-sell if you want to leave. Your best bet is to find the nearest night club with live bands and start asking the band members where the good deals are. Even many of the Thai bands that I know sing and speak fairly decent English and are generally very helpful to a fellow musician. Don't get stuck buying at the mainstream outlets, and paying too much. With a little looking around you can finds some really cool deals, and meet some interesting people along the way.

I had my acoustic sent from the US. Fed-Ex charged $300.00 fully insured. I was also hit with an 800 baht tax, when it was delivered. The more insurance you tack on the more tax you will be hit with. The guitar was well packaged and did arrive in a timely fashion. Now I just need to stop procrastinating and start playing it.....again. :)

Like other members have suggested, you may want to consider buying a combo here, unless you are here for the long haul. Guitars and amps are rather affordable. I would not be to keen on shipping say a Les Paul from such a distance.
