New Settlement Visa Costs

Hi all, I have just seen on a website today about the good old British Embassy increasing the settlement visa fees from 32000 baht to 88000 baht on the 6th of April. If this is true, then why? As I am going back in May to get all the paperwork sorted for my wife and daughter to join me in September.It has knocked my plans back at least 2 months. I would like to know the reason why such a hefty increace. Thanks for any replys.

check again, I think settlement for the wife is different to settlement fee for others...

The new visa fees were published by UKBA and can be found here:-

If the new settlement application fee of £644 is converted at the current rate of £=52baht, this pans out at 33,488baht.

The fees are not set by the embassy; they are set by the government.
