The Long Way Down

Featured Replies

Hi All

On the 4th of April I wil be driving from Chiang Rai to Bangkok via Chiang Mai, Kampaeng Phet and Nakon Sawan (Not all in one day). Can anyone advice me on any major road works and road conditions in these areas. Maybe any alternative route than Highway 1.

Thanks Mark

Last time I was on Hwy 1 south of Tak it was the worse road I have been on for a long time. ? on if it has been fixed. Southbound that is. Northbound looked like they had fixed it.

The only other reasonable option is to keep on 11 tell connects with 1 again.

I drove to Issan from Chiang mai last week and Highway 11 is ok apart from a few KM's that they are fixing. If you can though I would definatly use Highway 1 if theres no roadworks.

Yup not vey good southbound.

I'd suggest:

Lampang

Denchai,

Uttaradit

P'lok

Wang Noi

Nong Bua

Takfah

then onto the hiway 32 at Singhburi and into BKK that way. Only trouble may be a few (read lots) of tour/long distance buses depending on what time of day you hit the last section

have a good trip
