camerata
Heck, most Thais are uncomfortable being naked in a room by themselves. Quote of the month award for Johpa, please The quote comes from Patpong Sisters, by Cleo Odzer.
camerata
Thailand upset over Miss Universe bikini babesBANGKOK: -- Miss Universe organisers scrambled on Thursday to calm a furore over photos of bikini-clad contestants posing near an ancient Buddhist temple in pageant host Thailand after the images infuriated religious leaders. Don't you just love newsspeak? I would love to see an "infuriated" Buddhist leader! But religious leaders and culture watchdogs are still upset, saying the episode violated traditional values and morality just days before a key Buddhist holiday. Ah, so it's "culture watchdogs." Now it makes sense. Anyway, mission accomplished. Thailand has once again shown the world that it takes its religion and culture very seriously. sriracha john
Some people have complained about Artika's swimsuit. Hmmm... no complaints here. They say Indonesian women should not wear such an outfit in an international event. Hmmm... well, I suppose if they think she should be nud_e, that would be fine with me too... aiyajojo
i personally thing it is ridiculous to have bikini wear anywhere near a religious building. temple or church. i am buddhist, it is definitely not respectful. same goes with a church. would their religion like to see bare naked women posing? it is just common sense! "...did not realise that the temple is sacred for Thais"... <deleted> is this?? didnt know?? please...this isn't childs play. the viet pic above is appropriate... nicely dressed but in a hotel...and if in bikini..that would be fine as well...but in a religious place? get the F...out of here... and dont tell me that church stuff, its spread all over this world..and people dress in clothes that pay respect.... aiyajojo
swimsuit ...whatever... asians are known to be more conservative than amerians...i know because i was born in the US and see these things. and its not only here but moving out to the asian population...'tainting' them with ideas ... it is good in a way only because it brings countries together...but...hey competition isn't always a friendly sport. so what if i contradict? there are bad and good! and more and more asians are becoming more revealing in clothes...or whatever they do. that is only MY opinion. danintrang
I recon that this picture was a kind of undiplomatic toward Buddhism, but talking about Thai culture, tradition and religion. I think that Thais themselves are the most perverted and are loosing their value at great speed. For an average Thai, Bhudda is Thai and is to be worshipped with money donations in order to get it back with lottery prizes. The Monks themselves will encourage donation by suggesting that it brings long life and wealth. Many Monks will pretend that they are enlighted themselves or on the way to be enlighted or that they have "super power" like guessing the numbers of the next lotery. This is absolutely forbidden by monastic laws, one of the 4 most serious offence. A Monk who do that is not a Monk anymore and have to disrobe immediatly. But so many monks do that... And everyody happy. This is not Thailand, not Thai culture, not Thai tradition, not Bhuddism. It's a new religion which came out the last 15 years or so. Such a pity, because Buddhism teaching culd be of such great value, even in present time. But now, people worship cars and TVs. If this country want to keep its values and traditions, it should educate its people better, so they understand values, traditions and religion. Limbo
"She was the winner of a Hanoi beauty contest," said Le Ngoc Cuong, director of the Ministry of Culture's Performance Art Department. "She is not qualified to represent Vietnam." "We are confident that this is Miss Vietnam and Miss Vietnam Universe," she ( some american lady of the organisation) said. The Vietnam title was won by Nguyen Thi Huyen, 19, in October 2004. A month later, she was selected as one of 15 finalists at the Miss World competition in China and has since moved abroad to study. It was unclear why the runner-up to the national competition was not invited to participate in the Miss Universe pageant if Huyen could not attend. Yes stupidos, you can't participate in the Miss World election and the Miss Universe election at the same time. You can't mix water and fire. The Miss World election is the old traditional organisation. The Miss Universe thing is quite recently set up by a rich american and a television station. Untill now the participants, without any exception, have been from this world. If women from other stars don't participate it is nonsense to call the winner Miss Universe. The whole thing is just a copy of the Miss World thing. Mostly candidates can choose where to participate. The Miss Universe title is less attractive for well-doing models. The money is good, but for two years all decisions are taken for you on the base of the slave-contract you have to make with the Miss Universe organisation (like not showing yourself in public with your friend or partner etc etc). So many professional models choose for Miss World. It brings in more than the American copy. The Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper quoted vice minister of culture and information Le Tien Tho as saying Vietnam will inform Miss Universe organizers that Hang did not win or place in the national competition. But he said cultural officials will not intervene if Miss Universe organizers accept Hang's status. What does a Miss Universe 'election' have to do with culture? A lack of culture? Pham Thu Hang, Miss Vietnam 2005, poses in an evening gown at the Dusit Thani hotel in Bangkok for the Miss Universe 2005 competition. No, three-double idiot, it is not just an evening gown. It is a Ao Dai, the traditional dress for the TET, which is reshaped in 1935 into a modern dress, now considered to be the national dress. It is very well possible that the lady won the national Ao Dai contest which is yearly held since 1967.
