This looks interesting

From the Pale Moon Project Homepage http://www.palemoon.org/

Why settle for a basic build of your Firefox browser on Windows Operating Systems when you can have one that
Mozilla does not provide optimized browser packages for Windows, while many Linux ("from scratch") users get the advantage of a browser built specifically for their system. That needs to change! So, here is the Pale Moon project: Custom-built and optimized Firefox browsers for Windows Operating Systems. Make sure to get the most speed out of your browser!

I have just downloaded and installed it and everything seems to work fine and although I have not done any speed tests it appears much faster from my initial observations

It uses your existing firefox profile so all the add-ons extensions and bookmarks etc are availble automatically. Therefore be careful IFyou do not like it and uninstall it DO NOT DELETE your profile directory else your original Firefox profiles will also be deleted

Interesting.

I have just downloaded and installed.

It looks the same and started without a hitch.

I will need to use it for a day or two before I can comment in the speed, or memory usage.

Same here. Looks great so far. A few days will tell the tale.

It still hogs memory.

450M with 4 windows open.

I did have 6 open and the figure did not drop when I closed two.

That is one of the reasons I now use Opera most of the time.

The claim it from the same code as the standard FireFox...............

Whether there are updates is another matter?

Checking the Help Tab apparently I am currently downloading FF 3.6.2??

PaleMoon is 3.6.1 so it looks like they are in sync.

Just a thought. How secure is it?

Qood question. As it their site claims most of the speed is obtained by removing support for legacy processors, active X comparability, and rarely used features I would hope it would be more secure. On the other hand the programmer is using an older version of the Microsoft compiler to generate the code which could be an issue. From reading the site there has been little or no change to the majority of the code.

I'm pleased to say that I am impressed. Absolutely no problems or surprises so far.

Hi.

Seems to be something similar to Swiftfox for Linux. I can't try it as they (PaleMoon) don't have a Linux version, however i have been using Swiftfox since a long time already and found that it IS faster and less memory-consuming than Firefox. Swiftfox is available for a number of processors, get it here (Linux only!):

Why do people complain about Firefox or Pale Moon hogging memory? I just opened 4 windows and am using only 72 MB. That is very little considering that most computers have over a GB available.

I'm running Firefox 3.6.2 on a Windows 7 Intel machine, with about a dozen add-ons of various sorts installed, including Xmarks and LastPass... And with one window, it uses about 158 MB of memory, and that goes to about 163 MB when I open a second tab.... I've never tried to see what it would be...if I uninstalled all the add-ons...

PaleMoon looks to be an interesting product... I'd never heard of it before...until I read about it here... If it's faster for running streaming video, that would be a great advantage/appeal.

Hi.

No idea what it depends on but i found that Firefox is able to consume all of the available RAM. I have seen it (on Vista) gobbling up 800 MB of RAM, with only a few tabs open.

Right now i am using Swiftfox on Ubuntu, with 6 tabs open (one window) it uses 130.9 MB of RAM. Firefox would use around twice that.

Add-ons installed: Addblock Pro, Download Helper, Forecastbar Enhanced, FlashGot and Black Steel theme.

Best regards....
