Register Marriage In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would like to register my marriage in with my Thai wife, we got married in Australia and now would like to register it here as I need to renew my immig o spouse visa.

I have a certified and translated copy of our marriage certificate, so where do I need to go with that?

If certified by the embassy and translated you go to the ministry of foreign affairs, consular department, at Chaeng Wattana road in Bangkok. There you have it legalised. When you get it back you can go to an amphur and have the marriage recorded in the Thai register. Be sure to get a copy of the entry into wedding register, you might need it for immigration.

Be sure to get a copy of the entry into wedding register

^^^ What is that?

The marriage will be logged in the books (computer) at the amphur. Immigation now wants proof that you did that if you go for an etenion based on marriage. For that you can get a copy of the entry into the marriage register. The form is called Kor Por 2 (or 3) and should be something like 10 or 20 baht.

thanks

I am going through the same process.. I am married in the Netherlands to a Thai national. My wife called the Thai embassy here in Holland and came back with really strange response.

The Thai embassy said that if we register our Dutch marriage in Thailand that my wife will not be able to own land in Thailand…

I believe this to be true if my wife would change nationality but that is not the case she will remain Thai and therefore should be able to own land in Thailand…

What about all the farang in Thailand that are married their wife’s own land…

Strange strange story

Strange strange story

Strange and rubbish.

She can own land.

That was true that she would not be able to register new land holdings about 10 years ago but was changed and now she only has to sign paper that the money is hers and foreign husband signs his understanding it is not joint marriage property.
