I am a teacher here in Thailand and my contract/visa and work permit expire on Wednesday. I thought I got a weeks grace to leave the country or do I have to leave the country on Wednesday.

You have to leave the country the same day your employment ends. You can get a 7 day extension from immigration, cost 1,900 baht and a photo.

That is only if you are on an extension of stay from immigration.
