Permanent Residence Crim Record Check

Recommended Posts

Five months into the permanent residence process, Immigration has called me to say that I need a criminal record check with fingerprints instead of the one I submitted without fingerprints that my lawyer said was OK.

For those of you who've already got PR, where did you get the fingerprints taken to send to your home country for a criminal record check?

Suggest approaching

The Police Clearance Service Center

at Building 24, Royal Thai Police

Headquarters, Rama I, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330

Phone numbers: 0-2205-2168-9 Fax: 0-2205-2169

E-mail: [email protected]

because this is the place where Thai clearance reports are being issued which is a process that also requires fingerprint taking. They are prepared and equipped for this there.

Officiers are very helpful and used to deal with foreigners as well.

Good luck and best regards,

Richard

I wasn't required to provide fingerprints for my applicatin.

It certainly isn't specified on Immigration's list of documents. Another thing that isn't specified is whether the criminal record check itself has to be certified at your embassy or just a certified copy made. To certify the signature on the document, the embassy has to fax to your home country and it's pretty expensive, whereas a copy is just a standard procedure they can do at the embassy.

Similarly in my case.I had to provide a UK police statement to effect no evidence in database of criminal record. All fingerprinting (two sessions I seem to remember)was done at Immigration in Bangkok.

OK, here's the answer I got at Immigration today. If you need fingerprints taken, Immigration at Suan Phlu can do it for you. If your embassy provides a particular card for the fingerprints to be taken on (as with the US Embassy) you should get that card and take it with you. Otherwise you'll get the standard card printed in Thai.

As for who needs to send fingerprints for a criminal record check, it seems to depend on what types of record check your country offers. The certificate I got initially says "Name Check Only" and states that without fingerprints, they cannot guarantee that the name matches the person applying. Sounds logical to me. I guess there could be more than one person with my name and birth date.

If you're American you'll need fingerprints because the agency conducting the criminal background search is the FBI (which searches US records not only on name but on fingerprints). But the immigration officers at Suun Plu station (near South Sathorn Road) took the prints in no time.

Name check is British Police speak for criminal records office check (CRO check). For this you need full name, date of birth and place of birth, height, color of hair and race. They will also require you to supply other details such a color of eyes, marks, tattoos and places frequented or anything else that would distinguish you from the other person with the same name and details. You can get your own CRO check by filling in a form at the police station and paying a fee. I’m not sure that they would be willing to process your fingerprints though. If they were it would be a long wait as you would keep getting pushed to the back of the queue. Not sure if I’m 100% correct on this, as it is a long time since I have watched The Bill.
