Bt200 billion to be poured into water problems

BANGKOK: -- The government is preparing a budget of Bt200 billion to address all the nation’s water problems, with the aim of ensuring that no household will have to face water shortages in the future, Deputy Prime Minister Pinij Jarusombat announced today.

Mr. Pinij, who this morning chaired a meeting of agencies responsible for addressing water-related issues, said that the Bt200 billion spending plan would be put before the cabinet on 7 June.

“Looking at the reports from the agencies responsible for this, it appears that although the plans are good, they do not address all the issues, and we need to make additional provisions”, the deputy prime minister said, noting the need to take into account the needs of both the government and the public.

Issues which the proposals will address include the development of river basis, water distribution, artesian water, wastewater management and flood prevention.

The government hopes that within the next two years, no household in the country will be forced to contend with water shortages.

what happened with the massive water treatment plant they built...and then it did not work...

Think you maybe referring to Klong Dan in Samut Prakan. Its's still sitting there, idle as far as I'm aware and gradually being eroded away by the sea. A NPA (non-performing asset). :o
