I'm not sure if this is the right forum to put it, of not sorry 'bout that.

I've just moved into a house, and have some problems with mosquito's here. Luckily the house has mosquito nets in all the windows. The problem is that they form kinda like a gang in front of my house. They are hanging out there, waiting for me to open the door and every time I do one or two of the fuc_kers sneak inside and they buddy-up in the evening when I'm hanging in front of the TV .

The house has a small 1x0,5m pond in the front. And all the water used in the back of the house for washing will run in an open drain to the front of the house to the sewer. Not much I can change about that. And I figured I won't have to, if I just find a way to keep them away from my front door, they won't come inside.

So I would like to put some plants in front of the house, near the door. Heard Lemongrass will keep the mozzies away, but wanna check first for some other ideas. I wanted some plants around the house anyway, figured could kill to bugs at once :)

So which plants could I put near my frontdoor that repel the mosquitoes away from there?

Unfortunately there are no plants that just sit in their pots and produce enough repellent to keep the 'skeeters' at bay efficiently. They require to be damaged or crushed to release the oils that give off the smell they hate.

That said some people swear by lemongrass, rosemary, citronella geraniums, citronella grass, bay, cederwood, camphor. Try some of them, it can't hurt if you wanted some plants anyway.

Failing that sneak out the back door when they aren't looking.

We have the same problem. We've tried everything (all the plants that supposedly repel them), and nothing works. I almost bought one of those blueish lights with a fan in it that suck in the mosquitoes last night at Home Pro for 2900 Baht, but changed my mind at the last minute. I honestly don't think anything will completely eliminate them.

To keep them away from the house spray the interiors with DDT (though I don't know where you can get it from).

Just do a Google and you'll find plenty of instructions for making home made traps that use CO2.

Inside the house standard mosquito repellent mats or better the bottles will also do the trick.

Spray the mozzie nets with the DDT and go out there with a leccy tennis racket on occasion to let the gang know you mean business:

get some fish for the pond to eat the mozzie lavae

remove sources of standing water if possible

dont open the mozzie screen unless you have to

get some plug in mozzie repellant

I just bought one of those rackets. They are incredibly powerful! Sometimes, I just swish it around...and am amazed at how many I get. I can't even see them! But you can sure hear them sizzle...
