I've been living with my boyfriend for 2 years, and he'd like to come to Canada for a month or two to see the country, meet my family, etc. He's in his early 30s, owns a small condo, has traveled out of the country three times in the past two years, has a business, and makes regular financial support payments to his mother/aunt/sister/nieces in Thailand.

Has anyone tried to get a visa for a Thai man? Is it easier than for a woman? We are in Chiang Mai, and the consulate here is almost deserted. I've called multiple times for an appointment, gone in (but the consular rep had just "stepped out", according to the ever-present cleaning lady), and sent e-mails. I haven't had any reply at all!

If we do go to Bangkok, what do we need to bring/show? What are out chances?

For a visa to visit Canada, the Embassy needs to be convinced that the Thai has sufficient reasons to return to Thailand, and has sufficient resources while in Canada. Also the decision is entirely at the discretion of the Visa Officer. Good luck.

The consulate people are a busy lot???? Download the forms, fill them out, show supporting documents that will ensure his and your return to their satisfaction, pay the fee, and see what the decision is. Why would you expect a meeting prior to presentation of forms and documents?

Since you are traveling to see your family and you live here, with him???? A cover letter with documents showing a high probability that both of you will return to Thailand should do the trick.

Just some thoughts, good luck in your quest.

Since he is just going as a tourist, documentation of his condo ownership, job, income etc. Since he is coming to see your family a letter from someone in Canada stating that they will cover him while he stays there would help and copies of your passport, visa, workpermit etc, showing that you also have ties to Thailand should do the trick.
