I would like to include SSL in a webstore in order to protect any information flowing between the store and customers. The server host does provide free use of a shared SSL certificate but from what I understand these can only be used with 3rd level domain names as in website.go.tst.de We have a dedicated IP address and .com domain.

I am still confused about the quality, validity of most certificates as the prices range from 69$/year to over a thousand. The ones I looked at were mostly the popular ones such as VeriSign, GeoTrust etc.

Your suggestions would be well appreciated.
