April 12, 201016 yr Hi All Just got back to TL after 8 months in NZ, previously I was here for 4 years on a non o retirement but only wanted a tourist visa this time as I will do some more time out of the country next year. Went to the Thai embassy in Wgtn and was refused a tourist visa without a return ticket. Ended up having to buy a ticket to KL (cheapest I could get) before they would give me a visa. Just posted this to let anyone know who might be considering a tourist visa from NZ
April 12, 201016 yr The requirements for visa issue can vary at different embassies/consulates. The embassy website for Wellington does say that a valid air ticket or confirmed itinerary is required for issue of tourist visa, so should not really have come as a surprise. http://www.thaiembassynz.org.nz/Visa/tourist_visa.htm
April 12, 201016 yr I found the Thai embassy in Wellington to be less than helpful. When I was applying, I called the embassy three times to ask a question. Each time I was told, "In the website." And I would say, no, it's not there, or if I missed it, would you please direct me to where in the site? "In the website." After three I gave up and came here on a VOA. Got things straightened out after I arrived.
April 12, 201016 yr I have had no trouble using their office in Auckland City but only if you live in the north!
April 13, 201016 yr Believe Auckland is an honorary consulate. Honorary consulates do not receive any funding from the MFA - their income is derived solely from issue of visas and tend therefore to be more helpful and accommodating.
