Extending 60 Day Visa In Chiang Mai (post Udd Protests)

Featured Replies

hello all,

i'm in chiang mai at the moment. i have a 60 day tourist visa. it will finsh on april 30th. Can i just walk into the chiang mai immigration office and get my 30 day extension.

I've been told you have to do a border run to get the 30 day extension. The immigration office in Chiang Mai wont grant you a visa extension... is this true.

I know visa policy can vary from different regional offices and from time to time at state level too.

Has anyone done this recently (early 2010)

Thanks.

Just go to immigration next week and take a passphoto and 1,900 baht with you. You will get the extension and it will start from the date your curent permision to stay ends, not from the date you apply. So you won't lose any days by applying early.

You obtain extensions from immigration office, not at the border. You will need to take with your passport, completed application form TM7, recent passport sized photo, copies of your passport photo page/visa/arrival stamp + TM6 departure card. Fee 1900 baht. You can apply early and do not need to wait until the last day; the 30 day extension will start from the end of your current permission to stay.

Hi,

Sorry but I can't seem to find a current answer to this. I came in on a 30 day visa. Can this be extended? Ideally I'd like as long as possible.

Thanks

Yeh just go down to immigration, with 1900baht exactly, they don't do change i think. You can get a passport photo done on site.

For the person who came and got 30 days and didn't have a tourist visa before entry, you will have to go to border and will get more 15 days, 500baht to enter Mynamar at Mae Sai border.

1. You can obtain 7 days under review extension time on a 30 day visa exempt entry from immigration for 1,900 baht and photo. You may be required to show a ticket out within that time frame. You can not obtain longer than that without normal valid extension of stay reasons.

2. Alternative is leaving Thailand and return. By land 15 days. By air 30 days. Obtain a tourist visa in Vientiane or other Consulate for normal tourist visa stay.
