Hello,

We have been married for 3 yrs,(thai)married in the uk, and still living here,we both work full time, our future here in the uk is limited, and may leave the uk in a couple of years.

We have 2 kids,16 & 11,one at tech college & living with the grand parents in thailand.

We would like them to stay with us in the uk,for about 6 weeks between school & college holidays. Please any sound advice.

Q 1. Which visa would be best to apply for them.visitor or settlement.

Q.2 Where & how do we apply for the visa's,uk or thailand.

Q.3 Because of there restricted holidays, and we both work full time ,can dates be requested for the visa's.

any info thanks

Hi rory,

If only a short stay is intended then apply for visit visas. The applications should be made at the British embassy in Bangkok, although you can fill in the forms and send them to the kids to take. Alternatively, you can make the application direct to the embassy if you wish. Lastly, apply about a month or two before they are due to travel and ask that the visas are post-dated, although they should be valid for 6 months anyway.

You'll need to show that you can financially support the children and that you've got room for them in your house. You'll also need to satisfy the visa officer that they will be returning to Thailand at the end of their holiday.

Best of luck,

Scouse.

Thanks Scouse for your prompt reply.

would this mean,a letter from there shool & college to say when they return, also a

copy of house deeds (have got) and pay statments etc.

The trick is trying to get the visas granted so we can collect them in between about aweek going to thailand from work in the uk.

If we send the apps to the kids to take to the embassy, would they get granted then or at a later date ie.if we post date ?

thanks rory

Hi rory,

Yes, supply the documents you listed with the visa applications. Ultimately, the visas can be refused if he thinks the children will be coming to settle in the UK. However, a letter from the school indicating an intention to return will assist.

If the visa officer is immediately completely satisfied, then the kids could get the visas on the same day that they apply. However, if an interview is required, there may be a delay of a few days. As the children will be visiting the UK only for 6 weeks, the date of issue of the visas is not so important. They should be valid for 6 months and providing the dates of the intended stay are covered by this timespan there won't be a problem.

Cheers,

Thanks for your info scouse,

on the note;visas can be refused if the visa officer thinks they may of becoming

settled in the uk,in this case i would apply for a settlement visa and not visitor visa.

may be an idea?so they can come and go as they wish?

As they are returning, would it be ok to book return flights with this confirmation on the visas application or would this be tempting fate, because we are trying to do this between our jobs back in the uk.

thanks again scouse

And likewise, if the visa officer believs that the kids are not going to live in the UK permanently he may refuse a settlement visa. So, you takes your pick........

I wouldn't book tickets until the visas are secured, unless they are fully refundable, of course.

i think we will do the visitor visas, with as much evidance as we can, about two months before the dates, because that is what they are really doing,i just hope it falls in place when we post date it.

The scouser can maybe confirm if this is still the case, but I do remember that family visit visas can be appealed, where regular tourist visa applications can't be appealed.

If, for only that reason, it means family visit visas do tend to go more smoothly, if there's nothing obviously wrong with the application.
