What Visa Do I Need To Own A Car In My Name

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am 41 years old from Australia. Recently married to a Thai lady but marrage has not been registered as yet. Wife is pregnant and the contruction of our house will begin in the next few weeks, which of course will be in her name. I am keen to buy a car soon and I would like this to be in my own name. What visa and other documentation will be required? I travel to Thailand often but never stay for more than a few weeks so the 30 day visa on arrival has always been sufficient so far. i wish to buy the car on my mid year trip and will be in Thailand again for the birth of our child in late October hopefully for two months. All assistance and direction greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Number: one YOU ARE NOT MARRIED until you go to the amphur. Number two: you will need at least a 60/30 day tourist visa to get a certificate of residency from immigration to purchase any vehicle in Thailand. After you have received the CR which will cost 500 baht and is good for 30 days you may buy a vehicle n your name. The CR basically verifies your address in Thailand. You need a letter from your landlord with his/her picture ID on it signed. to present to immigration for the CR. If you want a Thai drivers license you will need a second CR.

Last year a CR cost me 200 and no letter or ID picture was required from my landlord.

I believe you can even do it on a 30 day visa free entry.

Perhaps requirements vary from office to office. I did mine at Chonburi.
