Documentary: Farangs In Thailand & Thai Relationships

Featured Replies

I am independent film maker and in the process of making a documentary on Farang / Thai relationships and why so many leave the West behind. I am looking at both Farang guys getting involved with Thai girls and the less usual Farang girls with Thais. I'd love to hear about your experiences, I'm looking to focus more on the positive aspects as wanting to get away from the stereotype. But if you have had bad experiences, then I would be intereted in hearing about those too. Did you come for a holiday, come to temporarily escape the rat race etc and never looked back? What is so much better about this place and the relationships compared to back home. What are the frustrations, barriers etc..

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am based in Bangkok, please let me know if you might be interested in also meeting up and if you would possibly be willing to appear on camera, but it would be great to meet people with interesting stories even if they do not want to appear on camera.

Please note that as I am an independent film maker starting out on documentaries, the film has not been commissioned so it is not guaranteed to be aired but I am planning to make a great film and get it broadcast.

Look forward to getting some thoughts, if you have any questions then please drop me a line.

Thanks a million :)

Sad to say that if the theme is successful loving relationships then no way will it get aired.

What the media wants is old men being screwed over by bar girls, old men with gorgeous 18 year olds, rich old men looking after some young thing and her extended family etc etc.

Good luck though.

OY COGGGGEERRRRSSSSSSS WHERE ARE YOU WHEN NEEDED!! :)

Sorry for shouting but if you look for the happy clappy lunatic poster called aunty Cognos he will have all your answers and questions... :D

signed..lunatic was meant to be a joke......

My story is no sterotype..but i wouldn't want to put it on video..

she's older than me and with more money too....

Jing jing. Those of us in a relationship with someone of the same age, background, professional level etc would not make a good story Im afraid because we are just like couples in the west or couples with the same nationality I should say. My relationship with my Thai wife is no different than any relationship I had before moving here there is just the plus of sharing each other cultures.

Awesome idea. I don't think anyone has thought of this before!

You F&%ING kidding us "awesome idea"

Did anyone see the Louis Theroux fly on the wall documentary about the internet Thai bride scene? It was absolutely brilliant, if a little sad.

I thought it was funny, as the guy running the matchmaking service obviously saw it as a free infomercial and was treating it as such

I think he should do a follow up in Pattaya. There is so much potential there for a similarly hilarious program. In fact if someone just drove around with a camera and took video of the folk there and added music it could be an amusing watch :)

There is a social group of expats and Thai people who meet to discuss that very issue. Most nights they meet in the parking lot of the Nana Plaza hotel. That’s Soi 4 Sukhumvit. Late night is the best time to meet the interesting people. Be brave.

Its wasted, I'm sorry. It'll not get picked up; it's like perils before swine. By way of reference:-

unless I'm only getting half the sarcasm there.

I'm sure there'll be plenty more than water under the bridge before this thread gets closed, but I doubt it will die a natural death...

To be constructive, I think that the OP ought to have suggested he'd be touting it round the SE Asian networks, dubbed into appropriate languages. Al Jazeera might be interested...

Same idiot back again

^ But no offer of $20 this time :)
