April 23, 201016 yr Hi I currently have a non B Visa which expires end of May. I am residing in Phang Nga and not working. I have a job offer from a company in Bangkok and they will be submitting a work permit application in Bangkok in May. It is unlikely that the work permit will be approved before the Visa expires. I understand that once I get the receipt for the work permit application, then I can apply to extend my B Visa without leaving the country whilst the work permit is being processed. I have two questions: 1. Is it correct than I can extend the B Visa with a work permit receipt without leaving the country and if so how long can I extend for? At what point should I apply for the extension i.e. wait until the last week or as soon as I get the receipt? 2. Can I make the extension request at the Immigration Office in Phang Nga even though the work permit receipt and application are processed in Bangkok. Or do I have to go to Bangkok to get the B Visa extended. If you could confirm the above and provide any more info on the extension process it will be much appreciated. Thanks
April 23, 201016 yr 1. If you have the receipt you can extend at immigration in Thailand, provided you meet the criteria for an extension of stay based on work. These are a bit stricter than those for getting a work permit. The extension is normally for 1 year, unless your contract is hsorter than 1 year. You can apply for teh extension during the last 30 days of your current permisison to stay. 2. You go to the imigration office for the area where you are residing.

Any idea what the criteria is for for an extension of stay based on work? I would like to be prepared for this!
April 23, 201016 yr Company must be in existence for 2 years minimum and have its tax papers in order and you have to have a salary of at least 50,000 baht for nationals of most western countries (depends on your nationality) Unless it is a teaching job or working for the media, there are no income requirements for them.

They were talking about a salary of 45 000 Bht. So this might not be enough? I have a South African Passport.
