June 6, 200521 yr Provincial governors banned from foreign trips BANGKOK: -- Provincial governors were ordered today to set their priorities straight by solving problems in their localities, rather than go off on expensive study trips abroad. The directive from Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Pol. Gen. Chidchai Vanasatidya was made during the Interior Ministry’s monthly meeting, broadcast via video conference to provincial governors up and down the country. Pol. Gen. Chidchai urged the governors to work to address the problems of local residents, and said that foreign trips would be banned unless strictly necessary. “I’ve been informed that local administrative organizations have asked for funding to go abroad. If provincial governors go, the damage is even greater. Government money must be used with extreme caution. It’s better that provincial governors undertake the government’s important work”, he said. --TNA 2005-06-06
