Is that from this kind of sentence?

ไว้ไงได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอน แล้วจะบอก

ไว้ไงได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอน แล้วจะโทรไปหา

it's from

หากได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอน อย่างไร

หากได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอน ยังไง

ได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอนยังไง

ไว้ไงได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอน

If I know a certain date(time) , I'll tell you.

ไว้ไง is from ไว้อย่างไร mean "If".

This sentence doesn't need ไง to be complete.

but it show that a speaker is not sure and still waiting for that too

if we cut ไง then it will be

ไว้ได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอน

mean

I'm waiting to know the time too, if I acknowledge it , I'll tell you

this , speaker is certain that he'll get to know the date and time , he just don't know it now , but he will

hope this will help

hmmmm อย่างไง and อย่างไร both mean 'how?'.

So adding ไว้ in front makes it to mean 'if'.

And ไว้ไง is short for ไว้อย่างไง.

Ok, so it was short hand that confused me . . . I removed the preceding context, but basically the person is organizing an event, and just hasn't decided on the time the event will be held (but will inform me when its decided). I figured out what the sentence meant, but I didn't understand the grammar rules in play.

How is ไว้อย่างไง different from หาก and ถ้า?

I have to add this first , there's no อย่างไง

It's a ไง (for short )

or อย่างไร (for formal talk).

if อย่าง be with ไง it will be change into ยัง --- ยังไง and อย่างไร (cutout of อย่าง just like ไง and ไร ม it's about how Thai ignore to say it properly)

There's no different among these.

ไว้ัยังไง ได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอนแล้ว

หากได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอนแล้ว

ถ้าได้วันเวลาที่แน่นอนแล้ว (in this kind of sentence).

Google found 6,350,000 results for อย่างไง. :)

The way I learned it, อย่างไง and อย่างไร are generally interchangeable. In spoken Thai, for อย่างไง, I see อย่าง simply omitted.

for example:

ทำไงดีคับ?

But for อย่างไร, you can't omit อย่าง because ไร is short for อะไร.

As for ไว้ัยังไง being the same as หาก and ถ้า, is it more formal? Or more used just for spoken language? Does it convey the exact same feeling of 'if' as the others?

You can use that to talk or type in an internet (อย่างไง) and most of people will accept it alright.

But it's a thing that Thai call ภาษาวิบัติ (havoc of language) .

it's result of how Thai ignore and use Thai language improperly.

just like ครับ change into คับ คัฟ ค้าบ งับ - เหรอ change to หรอ หลอ , wrong spelling , wrong spacing ,

You may see that in a lot of Thai forum has an avatar or signature about "งดภาษาวิบัติ" it's tell teenager who ignored to use their language properly to concern and correct it for reserve beauty and identity of Thai (one misspelling and sentence can go wrong)

์์์ฺฺฺฺฺฺ์May be it just perfectionism , but I'm the one who concern about ภาษาวิบัติ things.

It's somehow out of date talk for teenager who have a real haste chatting his IM. but for conservative head , it's a serious problem.

I'm out of a topic so much

อย่างไร most formal

ถ้าหาก formal

หาก concern about that

ถ้า ยังไง is about the same

If (if) you're really sensitive in language , (both if you're speaker and listener) ถ้า and ยังไง might sound a little "don't really care about that" .

and I (perfectionist) prefer to use หาก for he's my coop at work , but ถ้า ยังไง for my friend

the factor that control emotion and feeling in Thai language is pitch of voice ,

like this

ทำไมนะ (How it can be that or I want to know why )

ทำไมน่ะ (why is that be , huh , you tell me )

ทำไมน๊ะ (what the F___ or why the he__ is ...)

but , really , you can use any of it to talk or write and almost everyone will just accept it (don't even notice).

you can go to market and try using these word

ขายยังไง

ขายไง

ขายอย่างไง

ขายอย่างไร

and try to intentionally pronounce it nice

see a seller face you'll get it

first two would be allright in a market

อย่างไง and อย่างไร , she will have a slight notice . (it's a little bit too formal in a market and everyday life)

Its really the difference between ภาษาสวย and ภาษาพูด.

Whether ภาษาพูด is right or wrong according to the official language rules, Thais still speak it. :)

Thanks for the 'if' translations.

I think this example isn't right:

ทำไมน๊ะ (what the F___ or why the he__ is ...)

It should be

ทำไมว๊ะ

ทำไมน๊ะ would be more like 'What the heck' - still informal, but not overly rude.

(correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no expert, this is just my understanding)

No , you're right , I'm misinterpret it (cause I don't know how much rude of those English word too).

About pitch and tone , I think I advice a wrong person.

I just read your post in Advice for intermediate student thread

and you seem to understand it very well.

exactly right and good example.
