500 Baht Con

Featured Replies

Just read a post from a guy saying you have to pay 500 baht if you leave and re enter thailand the same day.

I have had this experience several times when going to poipet cambodia..You get a load of cambodians that tell you that you have to pay 500 to the police.

Utter rubbish.

Maybe most of you guys know about this con but the ones who dont then you need to know :)

Just keep walking and do your stamps yourself

OR

If you dont want to que long at the cambodian side they will take a payment of 200 baht or even 100 if you say take it or leave it. BUT DONT PAY 500.

scam is correct.

this utter trash has been going on (at least) since I remember from 2004'. the cambodian bum will approach you once crossed into

the Poipet boundry as you walk to clear the Poipet Immigration entry station. There is no such fee, so just disregard him.

He, He, it's true, they try it on , and those who don't know might pay up.

Just happened to a mate yesterday. He paid 1200 THB for the C. visa instead

of 1000 THB. And then he proceeded to pay another 500 THB at the stamp place.

If the stamp guy asks where you are going or if you are going right back, tell

them you are going to Siam Reap...
