May 6, 201016 yr Greeetings I am staying at a serviced apartment in Silom and paying the landlord an ungodly sum in monthly rent. In addition to the rent payment, I also pay for the electicity used in my room, every 30 days. Last month, my electricity bill hit 3,000 Baht even though I didnt spernd much time at home. This cost was based on electricity consumed at 8 Baht per metered unit. Can anyone tell me if the amount of 8 bhat is the amount normally charged by utility companies and if not the what rate is normally charged to conssumers in the Silom area. Regards and thanks Roderick
May 6, 201016 yr The rate charged by the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) is close to 3 Baht a unit these days I believe, however it is unfortunately normal for serviced apartments to make a little extra from you and you will find that most charge around 7 Baht a unit for electricity Martin
May 6, 201016 yr I used to think there was a special farang price for electricity as my bill is also around 3.0 to 3.5 k per month, a lot more when my kids come to visit. I learnt that Thai's bitch just as much as farangs about the electricity cost. There is a premium for condo versus homes fees and commercial buildings and factories all have different rates. It is transparent in the sense that the bill comes for EGAT directly and you can see the units consumed and price per unit.
May 6, 201016 yr I think that this might be the first time a farang asked about the cost of electricity...this month. With VAT, the metered price is about 3.5YHB/kwh. You're paying twice that.
May 6, 201016 yr If you want to see the official MEA rates they have an excellent document in English on their website giving their full rates breakdown http://www.mea.or.th/internet/neweng/ElectricRate.pdf Martin
May 6, 201016 yr Do you get the unopened bill from the MEA. If not ask to see that as the consumption will be metered separately for each apartment
May 6, 201016 yr I am renting a condo 45 M2 on Soi 1 Pattaya Beach. My bill direct from electricity company is 0 Baht yes Nil Baht. As the condo is Thai owned, if the account comes to under 300 Baht then their in no charge. Over 300 Bath then I pay all. This is also an expensive condo with clear beach and sea views. In the 8 months that I have been here I have paid a total of 320 Baht for electricity. Latest account 84 unit @ 0.9255 77.74 Bath Plus meter rent fixed charge of 192.49 Baht Sub Total ==============270.23 Baht 7% sales tax =========== 18.92 Baht Sub Total ============= 289.15 Baht Total =================== O Baht When I was living in BKK for 3 years I was paying about 800 Baht a month in electricity, but now I suspect it was free and the owner was charging me, as I used the same amount on average. By the way my water is 220 Baht per month now.
May 6, 201016 yr My wife and I only have one A/c in the bedroom of our 3 bed house and only use it at night, 2/3 fans downstairs the rest of the time. Our electricity bill is about 1800 p/m. We had a 3 month period last year where our water was FREE but it has shot up to 270 p/m from 120. OK it's hot so plants are watered more and we have more showers but a large increase and all the househloders (Thai and us) are complaining. In-laws village still gets FREE electricity and water, about a year now. BTW in Nakhon Sawan if no-one noticed Edited May 6, 201016 yr by hunglikea
May 6, 201016 yr If you rent out a house/flat it's classed as a business. And the rate's are higher. But not that high.
May 6, 201016 yr 7 or 8 baht/per unit is normal for serviced apartments, they may only change the sheets once a week, but they provide a service. I pay around the same per month 3,000, 2 air-cons, fans, washing machine, electritic stove etc. that's at 3.8/unit Water around 300/month You will pay top baht for water, garbage and cleaning in serviced apartments. Tell them you don't want the room serviced !!! but the rent will go up cheers...luap
May 6, 201016 yr if you don't deal with the MEA directly, the rates Fluctuate, if you are renting you get fluctuated every time
