Unfortunately I think that more violence is likely if a deal between the government and the reds appears to be taking shape, since there are extremists on both sides of the factional divide that have an incentive in preventing an agreement and provoking confrontation. More shootings and bombings are highly likely.

Moreover, the possibility of a security crackdown can't be ruled out, since the reds have not yet agreed to the government’s terms for an end to protests — and the group’s leadership is fragmented and different sub-groups can act without coordination with others (like the Chula Hospital invasion). These incidents highlight the volatility of the situation even as the two sides are the closest yet to a temporary cessation of protests and state of emergency. However the current bout of protests ends, potentially deadly security breaches like shootings and bombings will remain a threat in the lead up to November elections. :)

This situation is getting ever more Thai like -

reds are leaving Monday

reds are not leaving soon because ..

reds leaving soon

new attacks by red terrorists - two policemen dead and many injured

secret negotiations by the government with Thaksin

Democrats are pissed off because Abhisit is negotiating with Terrorists

2,000 red's are allowed through a road check point - to go to Bangkok and join ... why on earth ?????

and no action by the government to clear the site where the terrorists and their human shields hold Bangkok to ransom

Been here a very long time and have witnessed a lot of unbelievable events, but this one really takes the cake - how long is this Muppet show going to continue ??
