I have read many posts on this topic, however most posts are from 2007 and I would like some up to date information. My employer has told me my last day will be May 25th, 2010. My new employer has agreed to hire me on the May 26th, 2010.

I have a 1 year multiple entry WP that expires in 11 months.

There is no such beast as a 1 year multi entry work permit.

What Visa are you on, in fact are you on a visa or an extension attached to the work permit which becomes null once your current contract is finished ??

If you have a valid multiple entry non-immigrant visa, that will stay valid and no need to visit immirgaiton. Only when you are on an extension of stay (based on employment) from immigraiton do you have to go to immigration to cancel your permisison to stay.

You have to go to the labour department with a letter from your empoyer stating the date your employment ends to cancel your work permit, you can than apply for a new work permit.

If on extension of stay based on employment you would need to obtain 7 day extension from immigration on 25th May when your current permission to stay would be cancelled - as employment ceases. Then apply for new extension of stay with new employer paperwork from 26th May onwards (but within your 7 day extension period).

You need to take your WP to the labor dept with your new contract for employment on the 25th and then head straight to immigration with your new contract, get your visa extended, and then back to labor dept to show them, and they will issue you a new stamp in your WP.

And don't forget to have about 8 nice passport size photos of yourself and 10 copies of everything to be safe.

What consists of a new contract for employment. I have never done a WP transfer like this before.

Do I need to have forms from employment completed before arriving at the employment office on the 25th?

I have 8 WP pictures, and photcopies ready.I just want to make sure I have everything before arriving.
