Interesting how Seh Dang was being interviewed by International Herald Tribune when he was shot. If I'm not mistaken, this is the paper that had ties with Sondhi Limthongkul as distributor of his ThaiDay. A set-up with the cooperation of the yellow shirt leader? What a message to send to his nemesis, Thaksin.

Seh Dang? 'Say' no more.

You misspelled 'New York Times'.

Good luck with the rest of the conspiracy theory.

:D:):D

Hey both of you "English as a Second Language" people:

CNN: "Tom Fuller of the International Herald Tribune told CNN he was among those interviewing the renegade general -- better known as Seh Daeng, or Red Commander -- when he was shot."

International Herald Tribune is the global edition of NYT. Not to be picky, but he was representing IHT at the time. Du-oh!

You're a bit thick, aren't you? How do my smilies relate to my apparent ESL skills? It was in reference to your "conspiracy theory" and I'm obviously entitled to my opinion, so are you.

only thing i question is why they waited so long to shoot him and pray they dont make a martyr out of him. The military should have taking him in months ago.

The reds , (i hope) realize it is their best interest to deal and end this before it escalates further.

I'm not so sure if it actually was an army sniper that took him out. If it was, well done.

Army snipers are trained to aim at the chest. It's a larger target and a high velocity .308 round if hit in the chest is almost always deadly due to shock and other factors. Also, the head is more likely to be moved quickly causing the shot to miss. Those rounds are steel core and will penetrate a normal "bullet proof" vest without a problem. Only a vest with added ceramic plates would stop it.

In my opinion, looking at the way Thaksin and his red terrorists have acted so far, I would not be too surprised if the shot was aimed at the journalist but missed. The renegade General probably came up with the plan and literally "shot himself in the head". Another journalist shot, with him as a direct witness saying - "of course it was the government - would I put myself in danger ?" would have been a nightmare PR disaster for the government. This in itself is another argument against the government having been behind this "execution". The danger of hitting the journalist would have been way too great as Sae Deng found out in person, only in reverse.

Once the machines are turned off and an autopsy is done with forensic examinations of the angle of the wound etc.. we will know more, but my bet is on a scheme by the reds gone wrong

Nice story. But a US Navy Seal sniper was the shooter. They aim for eyes or temples. remember Campbells meeting ?

If that were the case life support would not be necessary. But whoever it was, nice shot!!! I dare say the rest of the Red leadership is on borrowed time. Let's see how their "we are reay to die" rhetoric goes now that they are going to do so!

"The Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) has ordered officers to go to the rescue of a company of soldiers, trapped inside the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, by red-shirt protesters."

A company of soldiers has to be rescued, what's wrong with that statement? :D

Guess you never saw "Black Hawk Down" or "Hotel Rhwanda" :)

I have, and the relevance?

They are movies about soldiers that have to be rescued ...

Political assassinations is not going to solve this.

only mean that everybody have to hide in government and army as well. to talk is better but suthep only want to kill because his head is next if have enquiry. why media cannot know this evil man suthep is mystery so must be control by PAD and CRES I think.

going to spread all over bangkok today. Rachprasong is very small area and too many military tied up and reds can run riot with rest of town and country. too many falangs hoping for suthep and newin to save abhisit. wow how big mistake can people make just because hate thaksin.

go mark before you have more blood on hands

It wasn't a "political" assassination. He was a violent criminal, maybe even taken out by his own team.

He is violent yes and if the governement had done its f.....g job he should

have been arrested long ago

LOL , yeah after all , all reds are violent terrorists . :)

You must be joking ....

Actually, you have no idea. Refrain from posting guessing as fact. The last thing we need here is another argument based upon misinformation.

If you take away guessing or best assumptions then every newspaper and news outlet could not report. T o find the truth to any story takes too much time and is no longer news worthy when it is discovered. People love speculation man get on out of here.

I think it was Red on Red and I have absolutely no proof to back that up. It was a good shot though.

Hope the killings end soon on all sides.

If anyone knows Nelson (injured France 24 journalist) then they will back me up in saying that he's a very likeable bloke. Hope his injuries are not too serious.

http://www.maverickhouse.com/author.html?a...&no_cache=1

Nelson Rand has lived in Southeast Asia for over ten years. He has worked as a freelance journalist, which has taken him to some of the most remote and little known conflict areas of the region, a subeditor for The Nation newspaper, and a political contractor for the Embassy of Canada in Thailand. He has a Master's Degree in Asia Pacific Policy Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies, both from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He currently resides in Bangkok. Conflict is his first book.

This just in !!!: Thaksin calls on govt to urgently hold talk with protesters

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra Friday issued a statement, urging the government to hold a talk with the protest leaders to end the violence.

He issued the statement via Noppadol Pattama, his former legal advisor.

Thaksin said the government had violated human rights and law by ordering the troops to crack down on the protesters.

Thaksin demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to immediately carry out four things:

1) The government must stop deploying troops and police with lethal weapons to suppress on protesters.

2) The government must immediately lift the state of emergency in all provices.

3) The government must hold a talk with protest leaders immediately to find a political solution.

4) The government must hold talks with all groups in the society to try to bring about reconciliation so that the country will have genuine democracy and justice and can progress.

This man is just unbelievable, after telling everyone in the reds not to quit, telling Seh Deang the same, sabotaging the PM's Road Map and now he wants the army and the Government to stop and sit down again---I for one would tell him you have done enough, and you now had a new country, leave this one alone.

Another thought is the Government could explain to him that this is his doing, so all he has to do is call his lackeys and tell them to move everyone out in two hours. The Government will not move and will cease for two hours and if they are4 not gone then t6hey get what you and them asked for and the total removal will be done, so you get TWO HOURS and the time start when I hang up the phone.

That is actually a very interesting thought. When do we find out about the autopsy, and is it possible the gov't could come up with something like this to lie about? Not sure who to believe anymore. But i like this concept.

The problem here is the people are so stupid they believe this crap. A coward that stole money from the Thai people that is funding terrorism is calling for the government to make it easier to be overthrown and they have no right protecting what belongs to the Thai people even if it comes to the use of force. Thaksin is a complete idiot! When does the international community step in? I guess they're no orientals in Montenegro so an agent just wouldn't blend in. :)

You just got to love the man. The Government has to do it all and the red shirts do nothing. I truly wish Thaksin had as much to sy over the red shirts doing as many here seem to think perhaps things would have been different. I once again bring up the point that any thing to do with Thaksin personally has never ever been mentioned in negotiations. :)

My two bahts worth... I said once before, Thailand needs its own Lochinvar now to ride in on his white steed....

The guy who rode into Isaan on a white steed was not Lochinvar but Padaeng [Redcliff] astride Bac Sam [Mr.Three]. He rides again in every Hae Boon Bang Fy, the Saturday parade before the Sunday rocket shoot. So, before before you ask for someone to ride to the rescue, read the cautionary tale of Phadaeng and Nang Ai.

Disagree woth you because Thaksin is already dead. I have photo proof of Thaksin funeral (includeing an image of his ghost) taken from ThaiVisa.

Is that the photo knocking around of the ghost Thaksin at Neverland with Micheal Jackson doing a cover of MJ and McCartney's 'Ebony and Ivory' on a KTV machine?

Looked like they were having a whale of a time.

Its not that one, there was a picture on ThaiVisa with a buddhist monk lighting some incent in a funeral ceremony. There were some people wearing red in that picture. The photo that was put up for the funeral is apparently a picture of thaksin, also a weird thing about this picture, is that if you look carefully you will see a faded thaksin standing in front facing the camera. That picture could be set up so easily and a minimal photoshop knowledge can make thaksin stand infront of his funeral looking like a ghost (you can see through thaksins body)

Absolutely correct about the media - not only do they want instant 'news' to broadcast and thus rely mainly on handouts from Thaksin's army of PR agencies to get the 'truth' about what is happening here, their reporters on the ground already have preconceived ideas about it all being about "democracy' and the rural poor versus the 'elite'. Unfortunately the government is no match for squareface when it comes to PR and are losing the media battle by default.

If only Abhisit could be given the chance to prove that he really cares for ALL the people of Thailand - he's made a good start - and not intent on amassing untold billions by corruption... like someone I can think of :)

You are clearly in favour of arbitrary non-judicial killing.

Presumably you also approve of Thaksins drug war ???

"..........HE's been terrorizing the country.........."

Can you enlarge this point ??

Do you know anybody terrorised by him ???

Many Thai's i know think he's been an amusement and a knowingly deliberate distraction.

Given the nature of Thai political reality, maybe he was the diversion ??

Who shot Sondhi last year ????

And who is responsible for the worst political situation? The government? No way, it is Thaksin and his paid slaves all by them selves. In any other Country in the world that would have been finished a long time ago, but the Prime Minister who has my full respect and that of all my friends how he has dealed with the situation. If it gets nasty now TRT = Thaksins Red Terrorists have to blame themselves for it.

Working class People? I did not see many of them there, all what could be seen the same drunken stupid bastards you will find everywhere spending the little money they have for moonshine boost.

Talk with the working class people and you will know what they think about the TRT Garbage.

Yes things have to change and they will change, just remember or if you can not look at it who has brought Thailand out of the 1997 crisis? It was the Democrats und Chuan Leekpai. And not as many claim Thaksin, all he did put the money the democratic government of that time has saved in to his and his croonies pockets.

Thaksin gives a dam about the poor all he did put money in their pocket so they would vote for him.

Your aptness to render such ambivalence and myopic presupposition interpolations is clear evidence you are a perfidious purveyor of deception with your load of pernicious trash the quantum of your comments; with its denigrating imbalance, prejudice, saliciousness, you make nonsensical ramblings with disturbing alacrity and vexatious intent.

Your comments are so naive they are completely nonsensical and stretch credulity to the outer limits all for your own aberrant fulfillment!

The current Government is so corrupt. They attempt to assassinate a Red Shirt leader and then deny the shooting !
